Shout at the Devil. With Lee Marvin and Rodger Moore.

Set in the first world war.

The German matelots were Bootnecks. £25 a day for leaping into the Oggin. Lee Marvin being an ex USMC Grunt would get as handcarts and proudly show off his warwound. He was shot in the Jacksie! :D Cleared a few Tourists from the Malta Hilton with that trick so he did.

One that never gets mention is "The Boys From Company C" Vietnam warfilm made before Platoon. All about these USMC guys from training to there return home (if they were lucky). Negative romance whatsoever.

Doc, another good line from Ungentlemanly, is when the boys are outside G.H. and are asked to surrender. Sarn`t Maj shouts back "Fark Off, you Spick Bastards" 8) As said eons ago, I once performed an ungentlemanly act on the box which upset the first Mrs Aitch, no end 8)
Shaving Private Brian, good fillum, wrong title. Should`ve been called "Wot, no Brits :o "
First half of Full Metal, kin brills, "choke yourself, maggot"
Apocalypse, of course, is only for all the one liners it provided us with"Charly don`t surf, Streetgang this is Almighty, Never get out of the boat,"etc
A Bridge too Far (or An Hour too Long as the critics named it) was about the Para Reg :o
It wasn`t was it :-?
What about the rest of Airborne Div, Polish Airborne, Armoured Div, and not forgetting Elmer who had a walk-on part
Once were Soldiers is another example of an inspiring story ruined by Mel"can`t act, won`t act" Gibson. Elsewhere I`ve mentioned Rick Restormel (ex British Army, served in the Ashau Valley and Ia Drang, and was killed in the WTC)
For sheer escapism(and the excuse to say,"Broadsword calling Danny Boy" in yer best Richard Burton accent) Where Eagles Dare, I know it`s chad before you start  Same with Sands of Iwo Jima, posties everywhere love going "Kowalski" :P

There was an old film about the para's called "The Red Beret" starring Alan Ladd, of all people.
It was about as crap as "The Cockleshell Heroes"!! (Starring another Yank as the Boss man - Jose Ferrer)!
"The Sands of Iwo Jima" does it for me - along with "Reach for the Sky".

Yeah, and no Stanley Baker or Michael Caine either which is a drag. Zulu was a lot better I think, Zulu Dawn's alright, but you can't beat Zulu.

"But why? Why us???"
"Becuase we're 'ere lad, an' noone else. Just us."

"CONTACT!"
Dramatised psuedo fly on the fly action film about a platoon of Para's serving in N.I. The opening scene is of the patrol emerging from a sparse wood and advancing across open scrubland when they are engaged by a PIRA ambush team c/w GPMG! In true Para Reg fashion they advance to contact! Extremely violent and bloody film more about people and what they're capable of, than about Para Reg. Cracking film though!
It's an absolute gem of film. Based on the book "Contact" By A F N Clark - a former platoon commander in 3 Para during the 70s, it's so hard to find these days. The programme hasn't been shown for years, but if you are lucky enough to see it, it's a real find.A platoon from the Parachute Regiment are patrolling in South Armagh, NI. There's no music, and the whole experience is eerily frightening. Because the film spends time following this group of paras on patrol, you experience the silence and the nerves, i.e ducking down waiting for the terrorists etc.The battle scenes are so real, and when they lose a man, there's no crying etc, just the PC telling them to get on with it and carry on. First-rate stuff. Really shows just how monotonous and frightening a tour in NI was.
Remember, knowledge is power, unless you forget it all.
