I'm one of those passive readers who keep an eye on the site from time to time without chipping in but reading this thread has genuinely moved me. I've always been proud of the Corps but the comments above fill me with even more pride that I was once a part of it. Your honesty and compassion is inspirational and is the work of big men.

I came across this passage the other day by Siegfried Sassoon (not the "Buy Shampoo? I just prof and go..." one :???: but the WW1 writer) written in 1936.

"Shell shock. How many a brief bombardment has its long-delayed after-effect in the minds of these survivors, many of whom had looked at their companions and laughed while the inferno did its best to destroy them. Not then was their evil hour, but now; now in the sweating suffocation of nightmare, in paralysis of limbs, in the stammering of dislocated speech. Worst of all, in the disintegration of those qualities through which they had been so gallant and selfless and uncomplaining - this, in the finer types of men, was the unspeakable tragedy of shell-shock."

I hope that the current court case amongst other things changes attitudes and more specifically the situation where a blind eye is turned to a type of suffering for which loyal and brave men were never prepared. We can berrate the legal system but on occaison it addresses injustice without regard to the cost to the wrongdoer. Let's hope it does so in this instance and makes the powers that be realise that if they want to carry on denying and disregarding the suffering - then it will cost them.

If left in a dark and sheltered place the problem can only fester and grow. I don't want to labour the point but I admire the courage shown by the men above in opening up.

I wish you all the very best whether involved in the current litigation or not (Yorkie - I think a dab of iodine on the you know what should do the trick  ).

Evening guys, two things, firstly lets all be very clear there is absolutely no blame whatsoever attatched to you suffering from P.T.S.D. Like l said before, it is an illness, just like mumps. And you dont blame a child because he has caught mumps.
Secondly, Mutley, when you say you would like to meet and have a stubbie, does that mean you intend for Yorkie`s willy to be there as well?
I take it from your use of the word that it is to Oz that you intend emigrating to, because the clock is ticking for my application to say "G`day, W.A."

yours Aye

Harry

I am, as you will know if you read other messages on here, putting together a web site for the Fearless. It has helped me over the last few days to cope a bit more with my head not being stuffed sideways.
It has been a long time since I sat down and looked at all the photos I took in the FI. That and putting in a page dedicated to those off F4 has made things a bit clearer, for a while anyway.
I sat today for about an hour remembering how some of the families coped who lost people, some of the strength of character I saw from mothers fathers brothers and sisters, it still makes me feel butterflies at the thought.
Why do we cry it helps us to cope, and I think it makes us stronger in some ways. I have always said women are emotionally stronger than men, they have to be to cope with us men....
I feel stronger because of the airing this is getting on here, perhaps someone should take a copy of this into the court it shows that we are only human after all.

Yorkie hope the spot is not getting bigger, try Doc Jolly's self help course and stay away from the sheep till after spring dipping.

I posted something, earlier this week, under War Pensions that might interest those following this thread.

Harry, Stubbie is always the preferred, (but I need to learn to dumb down my English). Yorkie could bring a cat litter-tray as I recall visiting a number of short stay accomodation which provided this facility to help keep spots at bay!

Royal likes sex.
And dripping. Royals idea of a good time would be having great sex and then dripping about it for the rest of the week. We drip about any thing. On a good day, I could drip for England( how d`you think I got my name?)I`ts either too hot or too cold too early or too late." Chicken bloody supreme? We`ve had chicken bloody supreme every day for the last nine days"or "I don`t believe it`s still raining"sort of things.
There is one thing we never drip about, never ever. That thing is pain. We dont drip, mank, whinge or moan about pain. You sprain your ankle really badly on some Tussock grass and it feels like a kerb has been dropped on your ankle. Your oppo asks how are you and instead of saying you are in agony, you say you`ll be allright in a minute. Once, I was getting off a Sea-king and bent down to pick up my Bergan. One of the straps had caught round the handle on the 84 but because it was under the snow I didn`t notice.I fell flat on my back and twatted myself inthe face with my weapon, very hard.It hurt like hell and in the balmy -20 degrees it bled for the rest of the afternoon. Did I drip about the pain? Did I Bollocks.I dripped like a tap for the rest of the day about my cam whites turning into cam reds. You`ve all had similar tales to tell, I`m sure.We never admit that we`re in pain, because being Mr Rufty Tufty means never having to say you`re hurt
That`s what we`re like, but there`s a differance between my getting twatted and saying I`m ok and you having PTSD and pretending nothings wrong
The effects of stress on the body are known to have serious suppressive effects on your immune system. That`s why you are tired all the time, can`t shift that cold and seem to cop every bug that`s doing the rounds. But wait, it gets better. Stress hormones cause the old fight or flight reaction, you get palpitations. a rapid heart beat and rising blood pressure levels. This makes you more prone to heart attacks and strokes. So it isn`t only your head that gets f***ed.
You have seen on this site that it can be treated(Simons story) so, come on Royal and do yourself a favour. You know it makes sense.
Phew, that was a long one( as she said last night)
P.S.no, it`s not the dripping you put on toast.
P.P.S. no Yorky, it`s not that kind of weapon
yours Aye, Harry

The one thing that is very clear when you read through this thread is that we all understand what it is, we all support one another, it's just as so many have said when it comes to admitting it we would rather run a marathon with full kit and the swim the channel.
I will likly keep saying Im going to see someone when Im 90, just because Im so stubborn headed....yes alright youve all noticed.
I think that this thread has done me more good than all the shrinks in the world and I want to thank you all for that. Next stop RMA tyne to get blotted with people who do really understand.
Cheers and have one for me......

Not viewed the site recently - My story is no different to anyone else contributing to this forum discussion?.
What I have done is to get it off my chest and write about it.
When I couldn't sleep, or woke up in the middle of the night sweating with a dying mans expression on my mind, I got up and wrote something down. I want to show the millions of people that MEN do actually suffer, and sometimes need care.
When Joe-public picks up the tabloid's with there money making headlines, "do they actually think about the sacrifices being made?"
Wars are inevitable as is violence in our home cities, but we need to learn about looking after those whom protect our way of life?
Lets hope all the MEN who have been doing the dirty work in Afghanistan get looked after. In the previous conflicts etc we have forgotton about them very quickly.
I hope that anyone suffering in silence and ignorance can draw a lot of confidence from this discussion. IT has given me more hope. We are not alone.
I wish you and your families every happiness

Good point, Jim, allthough I suppose Yorkie may not be able to say, for legal reasons. To me, it seems that the case that the MOD knew about the effects is undeniable. So the question is, given that they knew, why didn`t they do enough about it to prevent suffering?
Either, they simply chose to ignore it which is bad enough, or they made a conscious decision not to provide rescources, which is even worse.
Without giving any thing away Yorkie, perhaps you can comment.
yours Aye Harry
P.S. How`s the spot? Is it like the black spot in Treasure Island?

Court Case, Don't know much as yet, but as it is going to be long and drawn out (they are fighting every inch of the way) it could be ages before anything comes out. As per normal the papers will tell it all first, then we will get the letter. So keep getting The Sun.

The reason "they" (MOD) didn't do anything is as they have been shown to do in the past... do nothing...it may go away.

OOps it's appeared on my desk and I'm not going on holiday, there is no one else to hand it to, can't cover it over with other papers. And lastly we haven't bugeted for it so it can't happen till the next round of talks on money, etc etc etc.

They ( the faceless wonders who are never brought to task) could not or would not make a decision on how, or what to do. So now they have been sparked into life by a court case.

Go back to the pregnant service women. They (who have still got thier jobs, or been promoted) took no notice of European Law and got kicked by the girls. Well done.

This is simular, they took no notice, and it has been going on for years.

As normal with any illness or injury, the person who has it can get treatment, the carer gets nowt.

So to all of you who are concerned and trying to care for my spot. You are getting NOWT

See what I'm getting at.

Ratso,
don`t believe you didn`t get a plug in for your Fearless Campaign! And leave Yorky`s willy out of it, his missus might not know!
cheers me dears,
Harry Hackedoff

P.S. A very worthy cause, where can I send my hard-earned cash to? I think the old Fearfull should stay here and not be flogged-off.
