 Just another thought regarding Esprit de Corps, and regardless of Rank.
I started off on the bottom rung of the ladder to promotion, and after 25 years in the Royal Corps still had one foot on the bottom rung?,but I count amongst my friends Officers I have known and served with,WO1.s who I have raised a glass with,WO2.s who gave me a kick start now and again,SNCO.s whom I could rely on when the Shi'ite hits the fan,and above all the Bootneck standing alongside me,Thats Esprit de Corps.

But there's one snag,I could never get the bedding storemans job?.

Esprit de Corps, from the laboratories of Lower Field. Manufactured from organic raw material, squeezed of all impurities and viruses, then placed in a handy atomizer, so after a long day in the field, kit cleaned, dhoby done, showered and fed it's a quick whishhhh under the arms and out to trap.

Here's one we made earlier. Notice how tight his buns are, the narrowing of those sensitive eyes, his complete disregard for all Pongoid life forms.

Also available in tall sizes.

Hey guys

Just been reading through your posts, and I would like to add my own 2cents. Please forgive me if I come across as naive or arrogant - please bitch me as much as you like if I do ;)

Basically, we have the Special Forces, very small in size, normally sent in first to secure very important objectives, accomplish important task that no conventional force can do, and collect information on the enemy. Could not take on any large conventional force! SFs are able to sustain themselves for long periods of time.

Then there are the commandos, medium size (could take on a medium sized army, but doubtful that it could take on a large conventional force), normally used as a spearhead force, they are able to do many of the tasks normally assigned to Special Forces and just about all jobs assigned to Army infrantrymen. Commandos are able to sustain themselves for short periods of time.

Now for the Army, it is considered a large conventional force, being that it has plenty of bodies to through at the men - not literally, but you get the point  The Army is very rarely used for specialists tasks due to the size and is normally used to take on or hold off other large conventional forces. Most Armies need to be sustained constantly, otherwise they will lose strengh quite quickly.

As for the Paras, they can be considered standard infrantrymen, because unless there is a WW3 and there is a need to send a large conventional force behind enemy lines, the Commandos can pretty much do the job - no disrespect to the Paras, but they are the facts! However, although the Paras can be considered a conventional force, they are able to accomplish some specialists tasks and able to sustain themselves for short periods of time, when necessary. Mainly used to take strategic points and hold against another medium to large sized conventional force.

For any General, all the above are needed, including the Navy and RAF, because in any war scenario, you will need specialists forces and large conventional forces.

I know the descriptions are very brief, but I'm sure any intellectual person gets the point I am trying to make. Each unit has been designed for a certain task, and in many cases, can only be compared as above.

Thanks all ;)

El Prez

Love the photo, but how come, as you were a Diamond, you didn't get the King's Badge? :(

Could it be the belt buckle, just ever so slightly off centre? :o

Here is an example of a correctly located belt buckle. (Taken at Bickleigh before the new build started!)

No, I didn't get the King's Badge either!!

The guy who was awarded the King's Badge lost interest after training, became a VM and wanted nothing more than to leave the Corps, pity, he was a clever lad.; a Brummy, but switched on.
The photo was taken prior to stand-easy, hence the allowance for slippage.

Incoming...........

The original aim of this post was to try to tell the Royal Marine Wannerbies how to treat life as a Commando.

However we get the odd whining Perce who has to have his say. A word to the whining Perce Element Stick to the Army part of the forums... Please! Your boring and.....................well boring!

Royal Marines are known to be switched on kiddies. If you don't like it Tough! (Should have joined the best )

Most ex Army and indeed serving Army members of the Forum I have no problems with. As said before, each to your own. You build a bridge, You fire a Gurt big cannon, You drive a tank, You issue stores, You drive an LC (bloody RLC nicking our jobs!) or even Police places (RMP!) The vast Majority of Army and Ex army take it on the chin and (I hope) realise that Bootnecks are P*ss taking buggers with no malice meant at all to the Army. (I'ts how we are!)

So may I suggest to the PRONGS who take every word personally spoken by a Marine ref the Army as an insult that they go and Spit their Dummies out elsewhere! Because to be honest I could not give a Flying F**k anymore. (More chips on shoulders than Harry Ramsden fries in farking Blackpool!)

All I know is that I served in the most Professional part of the armed forces when it come to being Sneaky. Nasty. Trustworthy. Dependable. And Honest. And that to me was the Royal Marines.

A case in point. From the left Andy, (now a Copper) joined 1980. Artist, joined 1973. Yorkie Malone, joined 1964. Tony Groves, joined 1956.

Four generations of Royal Marines. Yorkie was my Drill instructor had not seen him since 1974. Andy was with Yorkie down South. Tony was a Conscript Marine. Long story short we pi**ed up from 1145hrs untill 2345hrs. Made not a jot of difference to us who was who the main fact was that we were Bootnecks and we got on like a house on fire!

At one stage a very Posh Gentleman wearing the old Blazer and tie of a Guards regt walked past and Yorkie started the old "Tub Three!" Tub Three!" The gentleman turned round and said something to Our Yorkie. Yorkies reply was one of the funniest things I have heard in years! Suffice to say the Gentleman buggered off ASAP! Iffen you want to know what Yorkie said best PM him.

What I'm trying to say Lads is Once you do that course and get that Green Lid. Army and Navy lads as well I hasten to add. You become part of the Family.

Says a lot about the Police mind. He was the only one going Bald!

That's me aged 18 and six months. The damp wet bit behind my ears dried up just for the photo. 8)
