I know what Aldo is saying. It's like a fireman never wanting to put out fires. I can't comment on war as I've never been in one but people want to do their job. So I know what aldo is saying. I dont think Nimbard's comments are worth answering.

At the end of the day I respect peoples view, I might not agree with them, but everyone's entitled to there own views.

I wasn't a RM, but I was a Medic for the USMC and deployed a few times. Someone asked me to check out the crowd here, and I see I'm late on this topic, but alot of you are still active on this forum. I will say it must be Universal the whole friends, family ect. trying to talk you out of the military especially the Marines, our Marines always take the heaviest casualties of the services here. I remember when GW1 was going on and I enlisted, a year later I was on my way to being a Corpsman with the Marines. My family, especially my dad who was in Vietnam figured I'd be dead in a box as soon as the next war rolled around. Our Marines are nicknamed many things, but "Bullet Sponge" is the one I see as more historically accurate. My point is people who love you, care about you associate Marines with the idea Marines stand a better chance of dying than most, because Marines are sent into the worst of it, because they are the only reliable soldiers by large on the battle field. Even people who don't know you that protest on the streets are concearned for you. War isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially now days. Less and less chivalry, more and more brutality, from unexpected sources. I as an ex-serviceman don't dislike the protesters, they think they are doing their part, but the fact is we live in a violent and sometimes chaotic world, and in a world like that you need Marines. I've met few protesters here who called me a baby killer or something else, most are just worried we'd get killed for nothing, and I'm sure that is the case from time to time, my mom cried her eyes out when I was ordered to FMF duty, my uncle Bim was shot in the face serving as a Marine in Vietnam, and no one in the family ever forgot. I read alot of things here I said and went through when I was younger going down a similar path. You guys I assume are of joining age, and must decide what is right for you. Looking back I'm glad I ended up on the road I was ordered down, it was trying, tough, and I saw some horrible things in training and on operations, but I also found a brotherhood of like minded individuals who years later send me an occasional e-mail that will start "Hey Doc". Even though it's been years if I met those guys on the street today I know we'd still be the same guys from the old rifle platoon.
Bottom line is don't let protesters get you down, most generally care, don't go hunting for a war, it's not what you see on TV, and you have to be understanding of your family.

Back to the subject in hand, when the Gulf War II was kicking of, I hung my St. George's flag in my fathers business window. I also stuck up posters supplied buy the Sun Newspaper saying, support our boy's and girls. A few weeks later it must of been on the weekend some used a spray can and sprayed " Support Our Brave Child Killers". They used a white spray and the shutters was blue so it stands out. And where my fathers business is situated it on a busy road where allot of traffic stops because of traffic lights. So loads of people have time to read it when the shutters are closed.

Me and my dad was f*£king pissed of that some had defaced our property and the fact that they call our troops child killers. We still kept up the flag and posters until the war ended. A few weeks later some women came to us and asked us to paint over the message, she was probably the stupid bitch that wrote, realising that they were wrong and our troops are not child killers.

Who ever wrote it I hope they are ashamed of what they did, and I wish they come in and admit what they did. Then I take them to the print room and put there hands in the guillotine and take their bloody hands off.

UK faced a direct threat and first hand carnage from a supreme terrorist (Hitler, for those of you havn't been to school) and you seem to have as many "dipshits" as does the U.S.

My son is off fighting terrorists. When I was off on (my) the great adventure, I thought it great fun, on returning I found my mother(mumm) was quite disturbed about the whole thing, a shock to me as I found it quite a thrill to "pop caps".

It is quite another thing as a father to watch your son go to war. I wouldn't piss on a protester if he was on fire. I do worry about my 2LT son (yes I know about 2LT's).

After a sincere soul searching, I can say that if my family must suffer, I am prepared. Do I value my son less than anybody else? NO!!!

I do believe that Britain and the U.S. are doing the correct thing. It is a difficult thing to do. It takes guts to to the right thing.

I do not understand the Brittish (especially Lucas wiring), but I know they've got the guts to do whats needed.

E4W you should be, rightly, proud of your son. If he's in Iraq you might have opened an interesting debate on the definition of a terrorist. No doubt, some, sorry - all, the Iraqis involved would class themselves as resistance fighters and/or guerrilla fighters.

The US/UK invaded Iraq: those we were fighting were the Iraqi army. We have failed to kill or capture their leader, who, therefore, can't be said to have surrendered. Does, therefore, anyone in an army you are fighting become a terrorist?

I guess the Maquis in France, Chetniks in Serbia/Croatia, etc.... would be offended to be called terrorists.

The war protestor people are only very young kids who just want somthing to do. The thing in iraq wasnt a war..saddams men turned and ran and pretended to be civillians and now our men are fighting against people who can be terrorist one minute and "innocent civillians" the next. People in these middle easter countries (mainly muslim) have not had access to education or much else in life other than religion, many of them are ordered around by complete nutcases and they belive what they hear due to lack of education.....
