TA

RobT,

If you're from Middlesborough why not check out 34 Signal Regiment? You can do as much soldiering or as little as you want. Some of the senior NCO's are ex-Regular Infantry and will point you in the right direction. If you get a phase 2 training team at Blandford half as good as the one I had in summer 2001, you'll be hooked.

Yeah i did look at them. The bloke from the AFCO gave me their number. I looked up the address and its in "Brambles Farm" I decided to go with the B (GreenHowards) Infantry Because i can find them and plus i've already done the applications. Theres a few regulars who showed me around the place and it seems spot on.

cheers anyway mate

Joining the TA

Post by spacecadet158 »

I was wondering if anyone could answer some of my questions about the TA. I'm looking to go to Sandhurst next year when I finish my A levels and i've applied, got my date for RCB Briefing etc. I took some advice from a mate in the RAF REG and he said being in the TA as a soldier for 6 months really helped him. I want some experience and get used to the military way of life, before I go in. I also want to have some experience t following orders before I potentially give them. So I was wondering if any one would answer some questions?
Is it work joining the TA for 1 year
Is it possible to transfer from the TA to the regulars easily?
Will a year give me good experience?
What sort of commitment do I need?
Will I get paid for working weekends?
Can I join the infantry?
How fast do I have to complete the 1.5 Mile run?
Will I be able to do this as well as college work?

I would really appreciate if anyone could answer my q's!
Cheers

Nice one matey. Is it a Voulenteers company?

To the guy with the questions. I think most of the things you have asked have been answered. Its up to you at the end of the day but it is a leap of faith and things start off very slowly untill you start your training but you won't regret it if your end goal is to join the Reg's

Not all RobT for instance do they have there own bar ? YES Are there any lovely looking girls there ? YES. One got me standing to attention straight away

Now on a seriously note, all the staff are friendly there are a few new recruits there at the moment so I will fit right in. Most of the company are away training for OP Telic, they will be off to Iraq next year sometime.

There was only me and another bloke there that was looking to join, but get this he was 33 he's only got tempera passport or something like that. He's from St Lucia, nice bloke but I'm not to sure he really wanted to join up. He keep telling me that his mates keep saying join the army go here, go there, do this etc. I don't think his hart is relay init.

But all an all I relay think that this is the regiment for me, but i'm going to look at my local TA unit Royal Signal next week just to see what it's like.

But I will probably join G (RGJ) Company The London Regiment looking forward to it.

When visiting G (RGJ) Company The London Regiment , I found out that fitness training is up to you. I had thought that they took charge of you fitness, but after it being expanded to me that they just don't have time to teach you fitness.

So it's all up to me :( :o

Yeah..same with us. They will grade you as red, amber or green and if you red and some part amber they will tell you how to get fit and its your responsibility.

Yeah, i got green, green, amber. But once you swear aliegence to the Queen you can take part in the company training. Going to get all greens this BPFA (you do one every recruit training weekend). They asked if i could shave about 15 seconds off my time, i was just off green, so i went out the next day after getting back and shaved off 55.

Just got back from my RT1 weekend and im bloody knackered! Had a great time, improved on all my scores (press-ups 70, sit-ups 63, 1.5 mile run 10.16) and even got to watch the rugby, yay!

The one down side is that the thing i was most looking forward to was the 22 range and when i got on it my first (and only as it turned out) shot went through the elastic band holding the target, damn! Didnt have time for a second go so i missed out but at least i hit the target this time!

RT2 in two weeks and we get to fire 5.56 rounds at the marine firing range!

Hello smile man. I'm back from Mod 1 ..Watched the rugby too, wayhey. We did a BPFA but didnt get a colour because that system is going out. I did ok for a big bastard but my press-ups weren't good as they wanted me to do the specific types of press-ups and different to what i've been doing so i messed up there. My situps again need work. The 1.5 mile i managed 11.12 mins so there's 40 secs or so to shed off. Considering i didn't practice or train for this weekend i didnt do too bad but joining the gym and spending an hour their each day should do me good for a few weeks time when i go back.

Their was the odd heffa who didnt manage the 1.5 mile in under 13.45 which is the absoloute minimum and they have to go away and train for a while and then come back when they are ready.

Im going to be training for the next two weeks so i can beat my scores. We were told at the end that our recruit section (33 recruits) was the best they'd ever had. Nearly everyone was all green but then again our TA unit was only formed in 1999. I hate the runs though so i have to work on that.

If they're fazing the colour sytem out did they tell you what was replacing it?

Smilie-man'81 what are the fitness requirements for the a TA solider ? I'm joining a infantry unit in the next week so I just want to get an idea of what training I should be doing.

What regiment have you joined ?
