As has been mentioned it would do wonders if he went out there yes he he would make a target but the word bait springs to mind not a soldier but would probly make the job easier for you if they came out into the open right also it might make the media report on the good work you guy's are doing out there instead of bomb of the weak

You sign up - you do the same job as everyone else. He should his status to set an example, if he got killed then maybe he would be remembered as all the other soldiers are, died bravely. Surely that would set an example ey?

Oh and please correct me if im wrong but andrew was kept well out of the action in the falklands.

AJ, if you call flying a helicopter as a decoy to draw Exocets away from naval ships 'away from the action', then I must say that is a rather narrow definition of 'action'.

Yes he should serve in action; yes, he will make a target of himself; yes the risks will be higher for the soldiers under his command; but he should be allowed to go and take whatever comes.

As to the politics of the matter - can't do a lot about that.
