I was talking to a friend of mine. A guy called Michael Schumacher (I kid you not!) out of Chicago. Mike is ex USMC. To say that he respected RR is an understatement of atomic proportions. Mike even named his son after him.

He was devastated over the death of "Gipper" as they call him. He referred to him several times as his "Commander in Chief". I was a bit taken aback at the level of affection that the American people had for Reagan, after all our perception has been affected somewhat by "Spitting Image". I'm not demeaning the man I was just surprised. It seems that the loss felt is almost Diana-like. Apart from our Maggie, did you see Gorbechev at the funeral? I was shocked to see him looking so old. Also he looked to be genuinely grieving, clearly Maggie was; apparently for years she always took a black dress with her just in case she got the call. Thats the two closest men in her life gone within a year.

Best quote: during a sound check prior to a TV appearance, unfortunately for Ron the mike was live: "we commence bombing Moscow in 5 minutes"

Rest easy Ron, for so many people to have loved you proves you must have done some good.
