JR,
I believe the last remaining "Topping Shed" in working order is at Wandsworth Prison,or it certainly was in working order within the last 10 years.Kept,as I understand it,on the premise that Arson in HM Dockyard was still a Capital Offence.
'Ere .... would that apply to "Dockyard Mateys",who spent all their working lives arson around ?
Anyone remember the old song "Children of the Dockyard Mateys, sitting on the Dockyard wall, just like their Fathers, doing f@~k all" ??

Ahoy there!
This is not a dig at the Peelers because I fully appreciate that in this political climate it is not easy to secure progress to trial let alone a conviction, BUT.................Maxine Carr has been charged with "perverting the course of justice!" Talk about an understatment! It sounds like she gave false information when answering a summons for a motoring offence.
The coppers must be dying of frustration if that's the all they can hit her with.
The need for them to conduct their investigation precisely to the letter of the law creates enormous pressure. One tiny slip up and some smart arse defence lawyer (I spit), will get the defendant released on a technicality. "My client did not receive a fair trial M'lud"

Sorry bootneck, don't agree with you. The colour of a mans skin has no bearing to this point (or any other in my view). Enoch Powells point was that unregulated immigration, if allowed to grow unchecked would give us ghettos and no go areas and in that respect he was right. The commentators of the time made it a Black v's white issue. What happend in Soham was not a race issue unless you make the point that a white couple are in the frame for it.
As someone who holds right of center political views I beleive in capital punishment. If there were a referendum on the matter today though, I would vote against its re institution unless there were clear strengthening of laws in relation to 'strong circumstancial evidence' and scientific evidence and their weight in influencing a jury to convict. Look at the Jill Dando case, would you hang that guy on the basis of the evidence that has called him a murderer? However, this is all rather academic as we signed away our right as a nation to ever reintroduce it when we signed the Maastricht treaty. (now theres a thought, bring back hanging and they would have to eject us from the club!)
Notwithstanding the above, My heart aches for those girls and their families. And yes, if they were my children, I would want to kill them too

sharky,
I wasn`t refering to the colour issue regards to the Murder of the two girls, just that if people had taken note of old enoch, this Land we call home, would have been a far safer place to live. but the rot set in, the do gooders had their five penneth, and hey, here we are, countless murders down the road, and they all end up in a secure "Medical Wing", because they heard voices saying its OK to top these young girls/boys and whoever else the voices say, and then play the trump card, and its easy life from there on in. just keep talking to the walls, make out your crazy. Like Harry said, bring back hanging for the murder of children/old age pensioners, etc, and if they get the odd one wrong, tough shyte. at least the people who are commiting these acts, know before they commit them, what they can expect, a smaller collar size. you could have say a two year delay in the hanging, just in case there was new evidence, that proved the person was innocent, after that, Tough. we all have our views as to what our perfect world would be, mine certainly doesn`t include young children being topped, just because some joker wants to find out what killing someone is like, they should join up for that little trip, but by doing that, they stand the chance of being topped themselves, any way, the soapbox is creaking, so I`ll hop off, before it collapses.

I think it was Perry Commo (?) who sang a song that went, "When you're the father of boys, you worry. But when you're the father of girls, you worry and you pray." Praying didn't help Holly and Jessica, and the whole country were involved, so I guess it's down to we fathers totally. I have a daughter who's just had her 12th birthday, and I guess the years ahead are going to be the most difficult I have had to handle.
The criminals seem to have the upper hand in support from 'do-gooders', and 'civil righters' but beware anyone who tries their sick practices near my daughter. My sympathy to the parents of Holly and Jessica, and may they receive the justice they deserve.

any punishment issued in this country, they usually do,this country has gone to the dogs as far as justice is concerned, its not the police they are
as sick of it as every one else, they catch them arrest them take them to court and then it all goes wrong,Harry your doing the best thing by
getting your family out of it.

Just to clarify a point raised in Steve Holden's last post.
Maxine Carr was charged with "conspiracy to pervert the course of justice",this was in effect a "holding" charge,as under the Police & Criminal Evidence Act,Police only have a certain time limit on detention.
This enabled Cambs Police to put her before a Court & have her remanded into custody,it may well be,that in due course she will be charged with more serious offences ... the only other option was to release her, without charge, with the risk of her absconding.

Ahoy there!
Yorkymarine maybe you can clarify this point for me. If the charge is in 'effect a holding charge', couldn't defence lawyers claim that the police had conspired to pervert the course of justice, by using the law to illegally hold the defendant in custody?
I'm not disagreeing with you and I fully understand the principal. It just occured to me that defence lawyers will look for any means to claim that their client was discriminated against and bring about the collapse of the prosecution case on a technicality.

Sunday Bloody Sunday
I don't think the charge is a holding charge, so far it is probably based on the only evidence they can get, indicating that she isn't feeling any remorse or pressure and is coughing to nothing. The perverting the course of justice charge CAN attract a life sentence, not just the seemingly heavy sentence of 4 years for what Mr, sorry Lord Archer did. I `shout' the word can because we all know that in this liberal, lefty country of ours there probably isn't a judge left who would even consider a maximum sentence, and if there was, as has been said earlier, the scrotes would run to the European Courts where, whether through the same liberal tendencies or merely a chance to get at the Brits, the sentences would be criticised. Harry H has the right idea, b----r off and leave them to it.
