just a quick one re gagetown run ashore, Capt Mike Norman (Brick outhouse) to three aimers(drivers) you can go to the NAFFI ( or equivalent) but don`t get pissed, and the transport leaves at 23:59. 00:15, where is macklewayne, (correct me if the spelling is wrong) lots of blank looks. ten minutes later, drunken singing, accoumpanied by Paddy macklewayne. Mike Norman, after quizing him as to why he was drunk, and some verbals off paddy, come with me, they went round the side of the six legger, but only one came back, Mike Norman got the short straw, and drove us back.

I also heard that paddy was at CTC, as a driver, and that one hot sunny day, he was following a soft top car, with a bit of totty in it, when the car braked sharply, and paddy ran into it. when he was on O/C`s, they asked him what had happened, and he told them that when he was braking, he had a stabbing pain in his right bollock, and instead of braking, he had accelerated. well he got away with it.

Booty, when in the FFL`s museum couple of weeks ago I bought thier mag and it had a good article on the 120mm mortar. Story was one of the sections was being disbanded. Developed from the British Stokes trench mortar of WW1 vintage by Hotchkiss- Brandt.
Just imagine a mortar that fires a five inch bomb!
Bet perce wouldn`t like jumping with that in his container

harry, if perce had any grey cells between his ears, he could get in the 120mm mortar, and jump out, thus landing in enemy territory quite safe. only to have the fixed firing pin make contact with the rear end, and launch himself back to aircraft

Good to see another mortar maggot(as we're known in the USA).Trust me they will teach you everything you need to know-and last I checked the US was part of NATO and I humped(tabbed) halfway across Georgia and back more than once with one of those bleedin' things strapped to me!

Gearjammer, Hi, "YOMPED" any type of march for the use of.(feet)
"YOMPED" load carrying march from A to B or any forced march involving large or small groups of Royal Marines.
Word originated ( I believe) in the 60s in Aden and is or was only used by Royal.

One of the things I am hoping to do here is learn to speak English,it's very similar to American though there are some differences.

Gearjammer, Have you come to the wrong place. You will learn our version of English, which nobody else will understand. We have wives and mothers, of bootnecks, logged on to try and understand what their husbands and sons are talking about.

oi Mate,
I know that the slang varies but I will be meeting all sorts so it won't hurt to learn as much as I can.Anyway lately I've been hanging around bars full of civvies and they're no fun, gotta pick a fight with half a dozen of 'em just to have a good time!Royal Marines are supposed to be tough so I figured I should hang out with them-maybe only have to scrap with two or three to get a challenge

The woman has already told me that Aldershot was an army town.I have been studying the geography of England to familiarise myself with it but I didn't know where I would find bootnecks-I tend to travel around wherever I am so who knows.I tend to hang around military people anyway, though I am no longer a soldier I prefer the company.Anyway I haven't gotten much conversation when I posted something on the army heading.
Since the subject came up where are Marines located? Are there RM facilities or do the navy and marines share bases?
Don't know what was meant by the Dick Van Dyke reference-should I be offended?
