I applied in october 2009 but have been injured, now i have my date to start in May i cant wait! The Para's is all i have ever wanted to do, and you just want it as a stepping stone! I wouldnt bother mate.
Its the only way mate, I can't think of another way.

Are you taking it as some kind of insult to your view of the PARAS, I want to join because you are bad asses, and having a history of working with the likes of the PARAS will give me a better rep with these kinds of jobs.

There is a minimum service for a reason lol, maybe people go in there intentionality for a short time more than you might think.

MK, never once have you mentioned why you want to join the Forces other than to improve your CV. To me that comes across as the wrong reasons, I joined the RM because I wanted to be a Bootie and no doubt the guys who went Para Regt did it for the same reason. As for being scared of nothing, that will change as you experience more than Bungie jumping.

Joining the Marines or the Paras is more of a calling than a job, you have to put your heart and soul into it or you will never succeed. If you think that this will be a easy stepping stone into another job, then think again.

Well, tbh I don't really want to join for any other reason.
I suppose its something that I can take pride in, and I have never heard a woman say "What?, he's a soildier? eeeeeewwww, he's a loser!" lol.
I do want to do it, its not like I think I'm ever going to be bored when I'm in there. If joining the army would help my CV out a lot, but would be a boring and crappy life style, then I wouldn't do it. I would like ti do the stuff you do, its just don't expect me to stick around any longer than I have to, because as soon as I'm out, then I'm going back to my original life goal.

I don't think he fact that bungee jumped is what makes me think I'm fearless.
I don't think I am fearless, but I I do stuff like Parkour and Thai boxing and what I'm saying is that I'm not afraid of heights, I'm not going to be so easy to tire out and I'm not afraid to feel some pain.

Well, we will see.
I'm signing up, and I'm going to boot camp.
I will return and tell you if I got in got not, I really don't think its going to be that hard.

Boot camp??? I wouldnt bother mate, the marines and Para lads wont like the fact thats all u want! If i were you i would go to a different infantry regiment. The Para's and Marines take pride in their jobs and Reg etc. All you want is a stepping stone to be a stunt man and for girls to chase after you! GROW UP!!!

are you mike golden in disguise? im sure the wise sorcerers at afco will politely tell you to go away and grow up a bit after about 5 minutes of hearing your waffle. no offence kid but its late and hearing 'i wanna join marines/paras to further my career as a stuntman' speaks volume about you. i done it the easy and straight forward way - chose a career i wanted and went for it. none of this stepping stone bullshit. try what i do 'bujinkan budo taijutsu' or maybe plain simple boxing before you aspire to be a paratrooper - it may knock out the vanity/immaturity and help you on the road to enlightenment.

The PARA or Marines can piss off if they don't like it, I'm there to learn and be a soldier, so I can do what I want when I'm out.
If I play my cards right when I'm in there and use my training when I'm in Afghanistan and do what I'm supposed to do like a professional, then when I'm at home and between me and the others, then they can go f@#k themselves, I don't give a shit about their lives or what they take pride in, its none of my business and I don't care.
But when I'm in there, as long as I'm doing what I'm told and trained to do, then the amount of pride I have for a beret or a flag still seems baffling to me.

I never said I wanted women to chase after me, I just said that an army uniform has pulling power... which is nothing more than a bonus.

Who?

Are you a stunt man?
I don't get what's so wrong about the idea, other than a load of bullshit about pride, which is kinda silly when you think about it.

I get all this "Don't bother", "You need to grow up" and "You can't use it as a stepping stone", and when I ask why, then all I get are insults, rather than an actual answer.
Can you give me something with a bit of logic behind it? And this isn't just aimed at gunner78, who's computer obviously doesn't have a caps lock, I'm talking to anybody who reads this and can explain why my plan sucks.

You trying to talk to me about martial arts buddy? Wow, you do a watered down, modernised version of Ninjutsu.

As for boxing, mate I have been in Muay Thai for years and have won countless fights, I would be thinking about going into K-1 or mixing Muay Thai with the Judo I have a black belt in and the Gracie Jiu Jitsu that I have a purple belt in, not to mention the years of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and boxing I have done, and make myself a career in MMA, but I would prefer to do stunts for films.

Trust me, you think I haven't done them? You think I'm soft lol?
I have been doing this shit sine I was 5, and Ninjustu and Boxing have come and gone and now I'm on the hardcore shit, mostly Muay Thai and GJJ.

Why do we bother...

Its gunner75..... not 78.

Yes my caps lock key works. More to the point why should I be bothered about that when your on here asking bone idle questions? Fine you asked on here and you got various answers, but are you seriously telling me that as a 21 year old young man you're going to march into AFCO and ask 'I want to join the Parachute Regiment, will it further my career as a stuntman when I quit?'. If I were the full screw taking the interview Id laugh you out of the office, or perhaps not take you serious i.e as in a joke.

Fine you do martial arts. However come back at me when youve done the courses Iv done - preferably having passed them too.

In answer to the thread title (if indeed it was a question):
Id say Parachute Regiment - we pull nicer birds...

If your inclined to be a stuntman, research the field more and start out in TV work. Jumping out of a plane static line as a tom wont stand you in good stead for the next Bond blockbuster...

Id hold you tongue on the 'cant understand the amount of pride for a beret' bit. To earn the maroon or green berets of the Parachute Regiment and RM's, a person has to give blood, sweat and tears, endure physical and mental hardship over a period of many months and has to give and want it 110%. Without this determination you WILL fail. By the sounds of it your not fussed now so what makes you think you will pass? Good luck.

Mike Golden = Biggest martial arts Walt to grace Helles Barracks in Catterick (Para depot). Google him - and my remark was said in jest, you also need a sense of humour in the forces!
