1. Isn't this sight called "Once a Marine Always a Marine"??
No- its military forums.co.uk, it used to be 'once a marine' but that just hosts the link to get here now.
2. Before all the wannabee's criticize the older members, maybe they should remember that they are the ones who forged the path for the rest of you, they are the ones that have lost best friends to whatever conflict came along! They are the ones that have to live with the memories of Northern Ireland, the Falklands, the Gulf I and whatever else was thrown their way. They are the ones that helped change some of the inequitable systems that used to exist - they are the ones that deserve your respect. If you cannot respect their points of view - you don't have to agree with them, just respect them - then "f**k off"!!
For the most part I think this has been done, theres been the odd nobber but you get them in life anyway. I don't think anyone is disrespecting anybody, but you have to face facts that this is an open discussion forum where people are entitled to exchange their points of view (as long as its done constructivly). Not too sure how your endpiece will improve retention though
4. Whether they served 50 years ago or 18 months ago, they are first and foremost marines - excuse us (it was almost 22 years ago since I was in Arbroath) but we are all entitled to remember all the good times we had, before it was politicaly incorrect to enjoy life, have a couple of beers, swing the lamp when we felt like it or whatever else the mood might bring. I still have great respect for all currently serving marines, but it seems from recent posts that you young guys have no idea what being a "Royal" actually means.
As far as I am aware nobody is stopping anyone from swinging the lamp. I've highlighted the last sentence because it sums up exactly the attitude directed at us more recent serving Royals - the arrogant and belittling attitude in that statement is nothing short of breathtaking.
Like I've said before it really depends on what you want from this forum - open discussion or a closed forum for 'old times' sake.
Personaly I'm way past caring but whatever you decide i hope it works out.
