can any one tell me if recruits for paras at Catterick get treated different then other recruits for different infantry regiments. or do all recruits get treated the same no matter the regiment just that on my 2ed interveiw my interveiwer seid to me that he does not think that i will make it for para in training and seid i would be at risk and passed me for light infantry.

How fast can you run the 1.5 mile BFT? If you can do it in under 9 minutes 18 seconds then you have every right to try for the Paras. If you are running slower than that time then your recruiter has a point, and if you aren't fit enough you will not get very far in depot.camerontarver wrote:can any one tell me if recruits for paras at Catterick get treated different then other recruits for different infantry regiments. or do all recruits get treated the same no matter the regiment just that on my 2ed interveiw my interveiwer seid to me that he does not think that i will make it for para in training and seid i would be at risk and passed me for light infantry.

be deaf at aco
hi, i can honestly say no one at aco wanted me going para, they drilled it into me that they were being re structured and just going to be a standard reg, when i still said i want the paras they told me i wouldnt make it and to go through the artillery to get in, my recruiting officer tried his damnest to get me in the gren gaurds, then at selection the officer who gave me my final said i wouldnt make it and my rec officer said i wouldnt make it and its a young mans game as im 29, i said if i have the run time which i knew i had i was only interested in para its all i want mind made up,id settlenother reg but he didnt know that, he then said congratulations and gave me my certificate, on returning to aco with a big smile on me face my recruiting officer said he had no doubts that i would become an airborne warrior, therefore in my mind i think they want people in there own regiments as it seemed a big turn around in how he talked to me regarding what i could achieve

That means they dont think your mature enough (attitude) but it sounds to me that they dont want you to go for some reason or another, probabily to try and put you off and join there regiment. If they keep giving you hastle and not letting you into the Paras ring this number or Email and explain your problem.camerontarver wrote:thay seid thay dont think that i am mental robust for the paras can any one tell me what thay mean by that

I did this and then next time I went back to my ACIO the Officers attitude towards me was totally different.

Also 1 quick question- On the form where you put your first, second and third choise can you just put Paras as your first choise can leave the other 2 empty or do you have to fill all 3 in?

2nd and 3rd choice
you are told that 3 choices have to be made, my 2nd was gren guards and 3rd the staffs now the mercian reg, for some strange reason its as if they dont want people going para, they also told me i was a nice lad and paras werent for nice lads its for delinquents and thugs and there all cocky idiots, and theyd break me until i was like them , so i said yeah il be one of them them, i dont think they were too impressed.

Cool, thanks lads. If I cant get into the Paras for some reason I dont want to go in any other regiment, Im going for gold and not settling for anything else.
And late entry, that stuff about being to nice is bullshit as you probabily already know, some are will be a bit dodgy and some are top lads but you get dodgy people were ever you go (any regiment or any job).

paras
the only thing i would do now is phone the parachute reg careers line , most of the time it goes to answer phone but keep trying or leave a message, just explain whats going on , dont get me wrong they see people coming through the door everyday at acio and they probs are a good judge of character, but a coin has two sides and your not going to walk in there like some hard man with an attitude just to prove your mentaly robust and cocksure, plus i was lead to believe the army broke people down and rebuilt them the way they wanted them , if thats the case whats there problem.

I told you up earlier to ring the hotline, they will help you out in any way they can. They actually rang my recuriting officer up and told him to stop any restrictions and to let me start my application prossess when I was ready
. They dont like recruiters stopping people going into the Paras and Marines because they are currently low on troops comming in for training as it is.
