Also, one more thing, despite going to catholic schools we were educated well, we were taught to question beliefs and statements and to ask questions such as 'why?' etc. It wasn't rammed down your throat because you were taught to keep a very open mind because in the end of the day it is only YOU who can make the decision, no one can force that upon you. That is freedom of will. Although i do have questions that will remain unanswered, i still believe in God.

Biggest fear for me is losing a limb or becoming paralysed.

Getting killed for something is not something that worries me greatly, once I'm dead I doubt I'll be able to care too much.

Then I wouldn't be able to join the Royal Marines! But who really likes bad weather, loads of cheap council houses, chavs and a poor goverment. Plus I hate football and everyday I see something to do with football.

Stinks, every country has it's problems, it's scumbags and it's share of crap weather.

Be grateful that we don't have poisonous animals, earthquakes, famine, drought, poverty, civil war and high unemployment.

Death is something that comes to all of us at some point. In any walk of life. In the words of the samurai, when you die, it is your time to go. Bare in mind that when you die your thoughts and emotions are no more, so there's no point in worrying about it. Just get on with it and enjoy it.

Getting killed for something is not something that worries me greatly, once I'm dead I doubt I'll be able to care too much.

Thats pretty much exactly how I feel, when its your time to go its your time to go, its going to happen one day or another and its pointless worrying about something that is enevitable.

Whilst we're on taboo subjects, another thing that I've been thinking about is killing. I don't really tell people what I'm planning on doing because usually their response is 'oh, you want to kill people then'

I mean hollywood makes it seem so blah-zay in films, but when you think about it you are actually taking someones life, if you did that in civilian life you would be locked up for 20 years.

I presume its just something that happens in the heat of battle, then you either dwell on it afterwards, just forget about it thinking 'it was either them or me' or just accept its a neccesary part of the job...

Any thoughts people?

I didn't join up to kill anyone.... Anyone who does, how do they know how they will react afterwards if they really do kill someone?

Having said that I did join up knowing that with the quality of training from the British Army that if there was a battle situatiion I would have a better chance than the poor fecker on the other side if I had to

When your dead your dead. If you can enjoy it then enjoy it. It doesnt really matter if you enjoy it or not on your way out because you won't have any emotions when your actually dead. I hope there is something after life but who knows, arent we being a bit greedy or complacement wishing that we can have a better after life, we should appreciate our time on earth now. However with chavs ect that can be a bit difficult.

Far greater chance of getting killed in traffic than getting slotted in a war zone. It's not something you think about any more than the chances of getting hit by a double decker on your way to work in the morning. If you're going to make a fuss of coming to terms with dying before joining the Forces, you should do the same before you leave your front door.

I just say to anyone who asks me why you joined the ta if they are going off on one about killing "Because I really want to bayonet babies " .That normally gets them to go away .
I think its bizarre that our culture expects soldiers to express regret about killing enemies it is what we are paid to do .Ok it would be a bit off collecting ears and relishing in the death.Think hollywood and its anguished nam vet has a lot to do with it .
I look at it this way .If their fighting British forces their going to be depressed as we always win.If their depressed their going to want to top themselves .So we are just doing them a favour .

That is exactly what I say to people that ask me why do i want to to join 3cdo, get sent to war and get killed for no reason. I think its funny that everyone else (most civves) think you join the corps just to kill, it is to make a difference, going to war and killing someone is not a thing that crosses my mind, the thing that crosses my mind when people like that "try" and express their opinion to make me not want to join (as if), is that what job do you do? do you enjoy it?.. lol a very slim amount of people will say they enjoy what they do.. I am sure i will love what i will do, coz i love it so far..

anyway enough babbling, i need to go shop.

Well said. My sentiments exactly.

I'm not a great believer in religion or the after-life but, for arguements sake let's say there is a heaven. Imagine how it will look when you're talking to all the other deceased people and they ask, "So how did you die?"
