Stinky, seriously do you ever think at all before you post?

As far as i can tell, you know nothing much about dogs as it is, let alone the type/breed of dog you mentioned, of which i imagine you only mentioned because you liked the long interesting name, you want a dog to go running with as if it will be some kind of training partner, and it almost looks like you feel you,d like to get a girlfriend so she can look after them.AND,AND you say your not even a dog lover, and now you,ve passed on the idea, almost as quickly as you came up with it in the first place.

I've been around dogs all my life. Theres not a year i've been alive that dogs have been around me. I've worked with gun dogs and had them as domestic pets. Dogs are incredible but are very much as the old saying says "mans best friend". The dog looks at you for everything so imagine having a person relying on you to allow it to do everything, open the toilet door, feed it, exercise it, play with it and give it somewhere to sleep and be comfy.

The only difference i suppose between a dog (that sees you as its mum) and a kid is the fact a dog wont tug your shirt and ask you for things - so you have to know it and be there for it. There are obvious rewards though.

My auntie has two Siberian Huskies and the thought of you trying to keep up with them on a run is the most stupid thing I've heard. Just think about it, these dogs pull sleds across the vast expanses of Siberia, Canada etc... they have enormous stamina and you'd neve keep up with them. Unfortunately I know this first hand from when they slipped the lead and I had to try and get them back!!

Yes but I bet those people don't go on holiday for 6 months do they, it'd cost you more than you earn to put a dog in kennels for the whole time you're on a operational tour not to mention all the other exercises etc.. that you will go on even when not on deployment.

Having a dog is like looking after a child Stinky. I too have been around dogs all my life, they're wicked lol but amoungst all the benefits you have to think clearly, vets bills, food, attention and just overall maintenance of a pet. They are like humans because they often pick up on their owners behaviour which means theres alot more to dogs than most people believe. They are amazing animals and far better than bloody cats!

But you have to real with this, if you get a pup they basically need constant attention, then it has to be house trained, followed by training it with simple commands such as sitting down etc. It is a big responsiblity Stinky and being single and in the corps is, in my belief not a good idea if you have a pet because just like a child, they need to be looked after properly.

Oh and by the way, kennels are usually a bad idea, most of the poxy things dont even looking after your dog properly so i really think if you do get a dog, you shouldn't put it in a kennel.

I've got two Huskies which I take out running with me attached to a belt around the waist. I used to work my dogs so they have been trained to understand commands (when they feel like it) for starting, left, right and stop. Good control is needed especially when starting the run as they will be so hyped up they will sprint off at about 25 mph (clocked them on my mountain bike) Trying to hold two huskies back who can pull up to 20 times their body weight is no easy feat. They will slow down eventually, quite embarrassing when they are just walking along and you are breathing out your rear end thinking you are going quite fast.

The amount of times I have been dragged along on my a**e in public is to embarrassing to mention, will they stop, will they hell, and I’m sure I’ve seen a little smirk across their faces when this happens. Running with them can be quite dangerous as the huksy has a very strong hunting instinct, when they see something like a small animal such as a rabbit, they will chase and kill it. If I only I could claim for whiplash after being suddenly forced to change direction when running. Same applies when they decide to suddenly stop to have a sniff of something they find interesting on the ground.

Also take them out and let them pull me off road on my mountain bike. Can be great fun when cycling passed someone who just sees two huskies shooting passed them and me just free wheeling along behind. Had a few close scrapes on the mountain bike though, one I can clearly remember is when the handlebars decided to work their way loose when we were doing about 15 mph, thank the lord that the brakes still worked when the handlebars were dangling in mid air, still don’t know how I didn’t fall off.

Apart form being little devils and causing me numerous injuries, I wouldn’t be without them for the world.

One more thing, I would never put them in the kennel, as you really need to know how to look after a husky, just wouldn't trust a kennel to do thisice

I think you're probably on your own there. This is a website to do with Military Fitness and Training and Stinky's original post was asking whether he would be able to keep a dog at his unit once he passes out of training, I'm fairly certain that anyone would be able to work this out for themselves.

As somebody else has already said, if you get hitched and get married quarters then there is more of a chance that you'll be able to keep a dog there (will be down to the landlord of the property).

Given the manner in which stinky has asked this question, and the history of timewasting posts he has made i think maybe you should realise why some people are having a 'stab'.

The question is on the surface fairly reasonable, however the forum is about training and fitness and just where the importance of Stinky being allowed a dog after training comes into his plans to join the Royal Marines im not quite sure. But actually read the posts, he has no idea about dogs, especially the breed he originally mentioned, and some of the comments he has made are pretty rediculous.

If he had researched a little bit about dogs, and found out some basic information BEFORE posting then he would never have had to make the post in the first place. But being stinky and probably just wanting to make the post for the hell of it, he has come on and suggested a breed of dog that it appears he would not even be allowed to buy let alone look after, and seems only to want the dog to go 'running with' and he isnt even a 'dog lover'.

He could have worked out with a bit of commen sense and work all the things that he has now been told, and would not have had to post a topic about buying a dog.

Its my guess, and i would imagine a fair few other's guess that really stinky was most likely bored and wanted to post something,anything, lets not forget his posting about the bug crawling into his ear (thats a point stinky, you already have a pet).

Even if he did have a genuine interest in having a dog, im sure he has more pressing matters with regards to joining the Royal Marines, such as passing the PRMC and RT.

It may not have been such a stupid post had stinky really thought everything through before asking, something he could have done very easliy, BUT he didnt as we can clearly see from the resulting thread.

anyway, hows the training going Stinky? Have you stopped drinking lucozade before running?

At the moment I have no money for lucozade, and I won't be doing that again. I'm now running 4 miles in 32 minutes which I am very happy with even though I know it is still not enough. Now alot of thinking goes into my posting, and then after I post I wonder if it was really a good idea to post at all even though it seemed a normal post before I posted it but I guess it's just the way my brain works. And I should have thought about posting about keeping a dog in a fitness and training forum I am sorry. When I said I wasn't a dog lover, I mean't like a real dog lover. I don't know very many names of dogs or what they are like living with you. But I do know I would love a dog if I had one and I did alot of research but none of the websites said 'If you are going into the marines...'. After reading everybodys advise, I have decided to see how able I am to look after the dog once I have joined the marines.
Thanks Ali_hire about the banning thing but I feel bad about this and I think I should be banned if I deserve it and I don't want to be kept here to annouy people sorry.

As a result of your replys i now gather that Stinky has said some stupid stuff in the past (not to slate you stinky) and i now know that i might have been slightly out of place with what i said, nevertheless i said what i said and i'll live with it. In all fairness, stinky doesn't exactly offend anyone. No other poster on here actually brings me to laughter when reading their messages. Yeah he says stupid things and asks silly questions but whats wrong with that.

I think half the time it's the way he tries to get his point accross which lets him down:

A typical stinky quote there, where he's trying to get his point accross but just can't quite put it in the proper fashion. Thats the thing with forums, people can only judge you on you'e posts, so if you're bad at english, or foreign for instance, people are going to think you're a bit thick. And even If you are a bit thick, so what, it's not like stinky swears all the time or slags anyone off.
