Same here

My girlfriend wants to know abit about the Marines so she knows what im getting myself into, so ive tried to show her both sides to the story. Im goin to lend her Preeces book and also 'How to become a Royal Marines Commando'.

It really doesnt surprise me that all the Marines have read Preeces book. It does give you an insight into a Marines lifestyle, and is a very entertaining, interesting and at times comical book. Keeps you wanting to read it. The day i got it, i got through almost half the book. Right upto the Boxing squad chapter. Just makes me want to join the Marines more. I know once ive passed out (if i pass out :o ) ill be joining the boxing squad, and probably go to 45 Commando as well if lucky.

I think all Squaddies, bootnecks, Gunners, everybody will agree, its a great book.

I trained very hard before I joined up. However, when I started my basic training, I felt like I'd wasted my time. In reality I never and my preparation built up my levels of fitness in readiness for basic training.

Its funny, but no one every foregts their basic training. Hard work, but great memories.

There's no way in hell i'm joining the Marines with a bird. I cut all ties last year and have just been enjoying myself since. Some birds might be all right but i know most of them won't be. My mate told me about when he joined up a few of the lads birds were always ringing up crying, accusing and even saying there pregnant just to get the lads to leave. Some of the tits actually did aswell.

Damn man, that sucks, well my ex girlfriend who i fell deep for wouldnt have given two watsits about the Marines and probably wouldnt have cared or understood. And from there all other girls ive dated etc wouldnt be happy either.

BUT..... my new girl ive known a very long time and have already explained that the Marines is where im going take it or leave it. She said shes willing to hack it out, i explained i may not be home much at all, and wont see her vbery much, but shes determined to make it work. She wants to understand the process and get as much info on the marines as possible to try and hack whats to come. Admittedly she hates the idea of me joining, but knows its where my heart and dreams lie and wants me to do it while i can, which i thought was really good of her.

Still things can change im not blind, and i expect the inevitable. But with any luck that may not happen. Its a crazy world is the world of women. But Future Marine, i have to agree with you, it would be alot more effiecient to go to the Marines without any thoughts flushing through your mind.

And them sad acts that left the corps because of their Girls, im sorry but that aint ever guna happen to me, it means to much to me!!!!!!!

p.s Future marine, you should know id make love to the corps if i could, i love it  lol

My girlfriend is fine with it, she comes from a military familiy so knows exactly what she is letting herself in for!

rgj-rifleman, i'd suggest The Making of a Royal Marine Commando by Nigel foster for your girlfriend, it has a nice chapter when the author speaks to some Marines wives for insight from thier point of view. My girlfriend loved that bit as it reassured her that she needs to support me in my career choice, and as flo put it, stand beside me not infront.

Guys: When I joined up, my then girlfriend gave me an ultimatum. She said:

"Its either me or the marines." Well, you can guess the answer!!!

I saw her a few years ago and she's a big fat gorilla now. Right decision I guess!!

Sounds like you definately made the right choice!

My girlfriend is fine with my decision to join up and I know she would never make me make that choice. Her dad was in the Navy for 30 odd years though so she knows how to deal with the long periods away.

Most people I've spoken to say they would worry too much about what she's getting up to while they're away but to be honest it's unlikely that I'd find out if she did cheat and I couldn't say I'd blame her either.
Aways look on the bright side of life.

Fair point, i dont think my girl would cheat, but you just cant tell untill your in. Steve i think you deffo made the right decision there mate. Bet you was loving it when you saw what she became and what you turned out to be

Ali, id still be relaly upset if my girl cheated, but in my honest opinion i think id chose the Marines as its once in a lifetime opportunity, and if she loves you then she will stick with you, not infront of you as you quoted earlier.

You can tell whos special just by their actions. I think ill be ok and she will to :)

Steve
Same as with my ex

I spoke to a friend the other day who saw her and even though we've only been apart for about 2 months she's already packed on the pounds and is a total pothead now :o

Good to know who's gone the better direction

I wouldn't be worried about them cheating, i just wouldn't want the hastle of them whinging and moaning all the time, im sick of it now never mind if i was away from them. If i did get a bird though and she did cheat on me as long as i didn't find out i wouldn't give a shit. What i don't know carn't hurt me!

If you have a g/f thats been around military life before then i guess your at an advantage, me i dont know any girl who's got that experience.

So right now im going to stick with alcohol and whales. Maybe even the odd sheep
