Sorry, had to get this off my chest

AH I SOOOO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM!!!!!! I hate it as well. Yesterday my collegue emma did one of them gym ball excercises and comes in complaining that it was sooo hard. She has been running for 4 months now and can only run 13 minutes max with walks included, i cant stand it its pathetic, and they all think shes so fit and healthy because she does one hour of petty step work at the gym. So iturn around and say i do 4 miles everymorning??
and they say, yeah whatever. I got really annoyed and told this girl that my mum who couldnt even run 10 seconds managed to train for a marathon in 4 months, so that she is doing pretty bad. And its oh so hard.
sorry, but i cant f**king stand it, it just really winds me up
p.s this girl asked whether we use real 'GUNS' in the TA and do they kill people and claimed it wasnt the army. I was like first of all they are Rifles and second of all yes we are being trained to kill people. Cant take it. As soon as i hopfully finish PRMC i cant wait to be around my own people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol, i took it from my pocket and thought i had turned it off, however i actually hadn't, so a couple of minutes later it rang again, there was one of those akward silences in the room and i got a funny look from the interviewer, it was actually my girlfriend wanting to know how my interview wentquirk wrote:did you answer and say ello or just turn red and pretend it was one of the blokes marking you

If truth be known those people who were 'making 3 miles sound like a marathon' were probably only being nice. There's a woman where i used to work (left my job last night, woo hoo!
) and her son is training for the army... anyway she said she was taking her son out to dinner because hes training to join the army and he just broke his 1.5 mile run time... 12:47
lol. So she's really proud of him an everything and so was i to some extent. For me running a 12:47 1.5 mile time is no big drama, but to somebody who's a fat bastard just at the beginning of training its another step on the long road so i just told her to tell him well done etc.
I did feel a bit of a tit when she asked what the royal marines expect you to do a 1.5 mile run time in, when i basically said under 10 mins she has visions of cram and coe im sure of it.

I believe anyone who really puts their mind to it would able to get really fit (maybe not Marine fit but swim and run for extended periods easily).Hankins wrote:you shuold have some standard of fitness, not everyone is capable of being in excellent shape, but no one said they shouldn't be sitting on their arse and doing nothing.
I do, however, appreciate that some people lead such busy lifestyles that they would not be able to put this much time into training. But I think everyone can at least manage a few half hours a week.

Before you all get too carried away with looking down your nose at fat unfit civvies just remember this.
If you made a scale of 1-10 1 being the unfit and 10 being the fittest then you are all only about 6 or 7 compared to the pro's. And you can included the rest of HMF with that. And I don't mean that in a nasty way.
We will all agree doing the mile and half in under 8 minutes as being top class. You could get fittest recruit with that. But a professional marathon runner can run at that pace for 26 miles unbelievable hey

Theres a big difference between a marathon runner and a marine. Many marathon runners are very light, skinny and certainly pacifically train to run!! Like me, im quite muscular, and dont need to be able to run at that speed for that amount of time. And being in the 6 -7 on the chart is alot highter than being a 1 - 2. In civvy street as civis it doesnt matter, as i know i am ten times fitter than anybody i know in my area apart from the ironman triathlete, my dad. Believe me, not alot of people can run that time, and only a small portion can. Hence 00.01% 99.99% need not apply. Marines, green jackets, guards, raf regiment, we are all mega fit, just wait till you get int the forces, thats when the fitness will really strike out. But i really disagree with you Harry73, we are fitter than many people out there and it REALLY winds me up when people do not understand the sweat and blood we produce when trying to be the best we can be.
We are one hell of alot fitter than many people out there!! And i respect the civis out there that do train hard, as there life is going to be alot more interesting than a bloody couch potato!!!
