Hi Greg,

Cheers for that info. I looked on ebay and got a variety of different MSM tablets (here - http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search. ... SM+tablets) Are there any in particular I should look for? I think this could help me in a big way with my injry too.
Hello mate.

Just had a look on Ebay myself.

The MSM, glucosamine, chondroitin mix tablets contain a mix of those substances. Glucosamine is taken by people suffering from arthritis,. I'm not sure about chondroitin etc.

Go for the MSM only tablets, they're branded differently but are the same thing.

Regards,
Greg.

I wouldn't buy off Ebay - always buy drugs from a branded company which will back up its' claims. Check with the largest pharmacist in your area too, even if they don't have some in stock, they can often order from reputable sources. A lot of places sell stuff in bottles that isn't what's on the label is all.

Either that or get it for a tenner from the bloke near the offie in Kings Cross

PS Sounds interesting though Greg, might have to read up on it and give it a shot myself.

I had shin splits, but they went away. I never run on grass, only concrete so how can they go away?? My conclusion was that after running on that surface for long, my knees are fine, bit grey but.......... I think it was due to knees adapting in some way?? Not sure.

Simple - you didn't have shin splints.

I suppose your right mate. But I seemed to get them with bad footwear occasionally.

Hi all.

I've got a relativley mild case of lower limb pain, presumably "shin splints" which I think in my case could be caused due to over pronation.
Obviously I'd like to get this problem sorted but can't really afford to see a specialist.
Does anyone know if treatment is avalaible on the NHS ?
I'm thinking along the lines of custom made insoles.

mate you can get a pair of sorbothane insoles from ebay, i just got a pair...these combined with a decent pair of running shoes did the job for me, just make sure you give your shins rest before you start running again, and gradually build up, the problem for most people (myself included) is that they do too much too quick

Totally agree JimBob, I also bought some Full Strike Sorborthane insoles and together with decent running shoes have really notices the difference. In fact I feel like a Kangaroo skipping down the road when I go running!

I think I was doing the same as you, too much too quickly!

Cheers

Thanks for advice.

I'll consider trying them out.

Aren't these insoles primarily desinged to reduce the impact stress of running though ?
I think my problem is down to poor lower limb alignment.

Call me stupid, but I looked on the link you provided and can see 'super thin' sorbothane insoles there. Are they the ones you got?

if it's shin splints you got then it's usually caused by the shock of your foot slapping the ground during running, these insoles basically reduce that shock, give it a try and if you find out that it is something a bit more technical then you can look to other alternatives

You could always get some stability trainers to sort that out. I use brooks adrenaline to make the shin more vertical than it previously was when running. I didnt have any pain as such but just wanted to try and straighten them out before i started training, although i have found my times have slightly improved since using them.

no these arent them, you would be better off with the full strike or double strike insoles, there will probably be more on sale tomorrow as the list changes everyday, or alternitavely just look at one of the sellers shops they will have alot more in stock
