Running with or without weight?Any PTI advice welcome!...
Mainly because the training team there to ensure everything is done propperly, under the correct supervision but also the training team will be the ones building you upto the standard of carrying weight.ramz56 wrote:well why do people say you will get injured when you run with weight and the training team will build you up to it, surely you have just as much chance of injury at rt as in preperation
From personal experience, without the propper core strength carrying a 35lb bergan is incredibly demanding, and for me I seem to be plagued with injuries since I started doing tabs with a bergan.
Edit: also..are you intending on bumping all these old threads or is it a post count thing?

Possibly because people like me and Shrek have been there and got the T Shirt!!ramz56 wrote:well why do people say you will get injured when you run with weight and the training team will build you up to it, surely you have just as much chance of injury at rt as in preperation

Advise if given freely but if you think you know better then dig out. Remember that in Recruit Training you will be runniing and leaping around things like the Assault Course and Tarzan course with 35Lb of weight evenly distributed around you waist as you will be wearing a fighting order not a bergan. Oh and don't forget you will also be carried your personal weapon as well.

Any form of training requires people who know what they are talking about to guide and teach you the correct way of doing things, thats why gyms have instructors. jumping straight in at the deep end of any exsertive exercise will increase your chances of injury immensley if your not supervised properly. Surely if it worked out better for you to train with webbing and boots to prepare yourself for RT you would be told to do so??? imagine jumping straight onto a bench press and trying to press 120kg when you've never pressed before?well why do people say you will get injured when you run with weight and the training team will build you up to it, surely you have just as much chance of injury at rt as in preperation
After my POC a few months ago the Colours PTI told me to get Sprinting up and down hills, with a back pack on for prep for YO training, this was because i'm quite small, and struggled on the fireman carry quite alot.
I think i will struggle more than most on running with weight in RT, and will take longer to build up to he required strength so i'm going to try build myself up doing this on sand dunes.
Its like they say don't worry if you can't swim before you come in, as they will teach you, but would you really want to start RT unable to swim, the only difference is the chance of injury running with weight causes, but if you take care it should be ok.

I have a similar problem, I joined 4-Para while waiting for my POC date, and have since failed a tab with 35lb. So my PTI told me to buy my own bergan and practice tabbing/running with weight in my own time... wasn't sure if it was good advice or not after all i've read on here, but figured he's a Sgt and a PTI so couldn't be far wrong..Jack1988 wrote:After my POC a few months ago the Colours PTI told me to get Sprinting up and down hills, with a back pack on for prep for YO training, this was because i'm quite small, and struggled on the fireman carry quite alot.

Now i'm sat here with a injuries in my back, knee and hip.
So I personally won't be doing too much weight when I recover, but will concentrate on core-strength excercises a lot more
