Exxonuk I think 26 might not be the normal age for joining but dont think it's too old. I reckon if you train hard and have a laugh with the rest of the marines you will be fine and that the age gap wont matter. I have heard of someone older than you joining the marines so really it aint that big a deal.

Good luck. :)

Thanks mate. At the end of the day it aint how old you are its all about how positive you are and how hard you train.

exxonuk, I turned 26 last week and passed PRMC on 27th Jan. I am not too interested in age, I just want to be a Marine.
I'll be heading to a commando unit if I pass out and being 26 will count for nothing in the Marines. That said, a younger more experienced Marine will get my attention and respect on work matters but that does not mean that everything they have to say will be worth anything. Remember you've probably lived a more varied life than they and will have a better idea of the wider world than they.

Use your experience to judge situations and give them a bit of space as their age shows. You can help them and they too can help you - being older is no guarantee of being wiser.

Play it by ear and don't worry about it, I'm not and I have no qualms about being friends with young lads.

When i did my PRMC age just didn't come into it, The CPL's couldn't give a s**t to be honest they spoke to some guy who was 25 exactly the same as they spoke to someone who was 17. Who cares about age, Just get down there and give it everything you got.

I have actully heard somewhere that a man's physicle peak is 28 years old, It was on a documentary about rannulph fiennes and Mike stroud. For instance, Look at every single world record for distance running, even sprinting world records goto people who are between the ages of 22-30. Being 18 doesn't mean for a second you'll be able to cope or take anymore physicle demands than a 25 year old.

No it does not mean that younger person in the Army is fitter than an older recruit, what it does mean that the younger person can do it for longer before his body gives up.

oh i know but in terms of physical fitness peak, Its probably slightly easier being in your 20's doing the commando tests than it is in your teens. Everyone's different though, All that matters is age isnt really a problem for people applying for PRMC should even consider.

I can only go by by talking to the lads in the Para's and it is surprising the number of them carrying some form of injury. The older you get the harder it is for the body to cope with it.

I agree that 26 tears of age is not old, but some of the people that will be serving with will have almost ten years service in and will be leaving on a full pension by the time you are 36. Now will you be able to hack it when you are 46.

Im training hard now and if im training hard then, why not. If a 46 yearold can continu to compete in Ironmen triathlons then why cant a 46 year old still be fitt enough to go to war.

What is the minimum age limit for a soldier to be sent to war in the US?

Its just that I saw a program about the National Guard (or whatever they are called) operating in Afghanistan in late 2001. One of the soldiers was only 17.

That's one of the probs we have here right now.
You can enlist in the Volunteer State Guard at 17.
National Guard at 18.Both are what you would know as Territorials.
The poor buggers are now deployed to sandy places for up to a year.0ne major problem with the DoD deploying these people is that it's unconstitutional to send soldiers overseas under age 21(We cannot Vote or have a bevy under that age)When this debacle is finally over the DoD and State are going to be covered up in Lawsuits.Should keep the JAG Lawyers busy for years.
