The second word was IT. Was not meant to be rude dear Sir.
As you progressed up the ladder in the sigs branch you had to get quicker which was a Tad pointless as when sending/recieving Morse Code on a unit net you had to work to the slowest operator.
Listening in to a bunch of Bootneck Signallers all you seemed to hear was 8 dits and then after a few abortive attempts IMI (repeat) would be heard. Then finally ZBI! (switch to voice) I heard quite a few times those imortal words "USE OTHER FOOT!" directed at some poor sod who was a "Bit Rusty" when it came to Morse.
At one stage every unit in the Corp would have to go on the "Corp Net" from 0900hrs until 1200hrs Zulu every Friday in a vain attempt to improve the Sending/Recieving of Morse within the sigs branch of the Corp. Be you in barracks or on active service. This was seen as a "Punishment detail" by a fair few higher ranking people within the branch as most people were keen to be away from their units by 1000hrs for the weekend. This atitude rather negated the entire aim of the net in all honesty.
At one stage we had the Belgium Paras, German Jaegers and the USMC joining in but it was left to wither over time and never became a regular thing which is a shame as it's aims were only for the best.
Another thing that was used a fair bit by the RN was called "WAXPAM" this consisted of a RN Ship Sending/Recieving Morse to some Army/RAF/RM unit. You sat there with this book of text and read it as it was sent to you then you would repeat the whole process. A bit boring but it did improve the skills of the Operators.
To be honest I quite enjoyed RX/Sending the old Morse and always tried practicing the skill at every oportunity I got.
The fact is even now in this super dooper age of computors and suchlike a Carrier Wave will still burn through any attempts to Jam it. And I reckon Morse Code should still be an entegral part of all Sigs training within the Corp. But it all boils down to the cost of the training nowadays.

Artist, did you ever use a Morse trainer? It generates random letters in Morse and the speed can be set/increased as the user gains experiance. There must be modern versions available for pcs and the cost would be minimal.
Agree about cw being able to push through the mush but current sigs kit brings a whole new meaning to the words "frequency agile" Sends the old Clansman 320 to the realm of sigs flags
Did you do the old trick of connecting the key contacts to a knife and making it go "Boinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg" on the edge of a table? Larf

I got a Tels tech Oppo to rig me one of those super duper Dah Dit Keys. Left side went dit, right side went dah. And yes I did indeed use the old Morse trainer. But found it was better to do it for real.
DSB, SSB. C11 HF, Larkspur. OK I'm old!
Clansmen was a different thing but still used/uses the same frequencies the main point I am trying to say is that Whatever/How Clever the bit Off kit that is used it will never, ever come close to the good old Carrier Wave. Regardless of the stuff you use it is still going to be VHF or HF when it comes to Comms. VHF......great if you want to talk to people no more than 5 miles from you location. But HF rules when the shit hits the fan. UHF? Yer right! talk to airplanes and such. Nought else!
I tried to be good at what I did. be it A Sigs rating, A Ski instructor, An LC rating, A Sniper, A Potato Peeler, A farkin Pain!!!! A kin Printer! All I ever did was try to be professional. That was it.
