I first went into AFCO in july 2003, my first recruiter was a d@@k and didn't seem to do anything (apart from try to talk me into going in the guards). For 3 months I was ringing up asking what was going on to get the same reply "we are waiting to recieve your medical documents from your doctor". On telephoning my doctor each time I heard this, they assured me that they had not recieved any requests for my documents. This went on until last December when thankfully I got a new recruiter. He is a green jacket and a sound bloke. Not once did he try and push me towards his reg, he had a chat with me and respected that I wanted to go para and got things moving. Unfortunately my first RSC date came through when I was injured, then I got another date for which I had a chest infection, (but I stupidly went anyway) and failed on my run with a time of 9:20.
So it's been a long time for me as well, feels like forever! At least I know I'm in and I'll only have a couple more months to wait now.

What time did you get on your run? How did you find the other tests as well?

I got 9:10 on the run which is the thing I was most worried about. I'm really good at distance running and can do 5 or 6 miles (normal running pace) with not too much drama. But I've never been much of a speed runner, so for me I really had to work hard to get quicker. But it made it all the more rewarding knowing how much work I had put in. Just goes to show I guess, if you put the effort in and want it bad enough you can do anything.

I also did 14 chin-ups and did well on the other tests too. I thought the jerry can carry was w**k, we had a lad drop out after one and a half lengths!!

ye i was worried about the run aswell, i didnt think that i had made it. i sprinted at the end which will be why i got the time. i got 9 chin-ups. the jerry can walk was nothing. we had a lot of lads struggling to do 1 chin-up.

Yeah, we had a couple of lads who were pretty bad at chin ups too. Some people had obviously never even ran for the bus let alone a mile and a half. It makes you wonder if they actually know anything about army life or they just think they'll blag it in. Some of them looked like they just couldn't be F*@ked and didn't want to be there, I just thought why do they bother?!? Stupid things as well like talking when we've been told to shut up, doesn't require much brain power does it?! All of the determined people wanted to fill them in.

They were the first to moan when they didn't get a job.

N@bs

I'm just abouts to head off to my Insight Course with the paras, i am worried that i won't get my run time down, but i think everyone does. I devised a way to get there, start off at speed for a while (Not full speed) then to normal jog untill i recover and then speed up again from one place to another and normal jog, do this all the way through. It shades a lot of time off, after all it is best effort and you can't run all the way around full pelt. Its like the guy off Bad Lads army said last night, its all about tatics.

what gets me is the people who mouth off first then get told off and after that they think they are king and know everything.
they get told 3 words and think they know the whole dictionary.

From what I've been told I think you have a few w@*kers at the start of training. They soon leave as it starts to get harder.

Enjoy your insight course grimey, let us know how you get on mate.
