Aptitude test

Good question, the guy never told me, I was simply took in a room, told i didnt have enough for wso, he then asked if I have any second choices, I said weapons tech, he said yes thats fine but call back later.

I asked how many points did i miss wso by, he said its not done in points as such, the computer marks it??? Not too helpful to be honest.

Well after calling back the afco, I managed to get back through to the original guy I spoke to who was very helpful and friendly.

The score: I was placed on the unofficial waiting list for weapons tech and aircraft tech (avonics). When a place comes up off for the medical.

Timescale: New year at the earliest.

I took the test on the 13th July and managed to get into avionics, which is my choosen career. When i took my appitude test there were 2 other guys resiting (we were given green sheets to write on they had yellow), they were given the same test as us but a different memory test as it was the same as there last one. All looked similar to what was given in the practice sheet.

Going back to the avionics trade they said to me it will be about jan/feb time when they start recruiting so gotto wait till then for a medical and interview. At the momoment i am on that waiting list, suppose better to be on it then not.

well, did my test this morning and passed. got 70 this time, which qualifies for the avionics technician career i wanted.

not avaiable at the moment, any one else waiting on this career, how long have you been waiting, and when did they tell you you may get a place.

Hi all, sorry for the delay, havent been on here for a couple of days.

they basically said that there arent any positions open at the moment for avionics, but they will call me when they open. didnt give a date, just the start of next year at te very earliest.

i am 19 and have just got my GCSE's and a BTEC ND in computer networking. Also did GCSE physics at college as i thaght this may help me.

i beleive you need 68 points on your test to get avionics, not sure specifically on the technical section sorry. How did you do sharon and when did you pass?

Hi ya I passed the test on the 13 July 2004. They didn't tell me my score, they just said i can do my chosen career, which is avionics.

I am 21, i have completed my GCSE's and have a BTEC in Electronics also a HNC in Electronics, I am in my 2nd year out of 4 doing a degree in electronics.

If i hear any news i will tell you. Hopefully it won't take that long.

What was your interest in avionics?

Hi,

When i first took the test in february i applied for the electronics technician trade whcih was available then, but upon applying for my retake, that no longer existed, so i had a rethink and this one sounded similar and also interesting. Ive always been into fixing things and learning how stuff works, and i though this was for me.

Likewise, if i hear from them or anything ill post it on here. Whcih AFCO did you attend out of interest?

I attended the AFCO which is situated in Portsmouth. Which AFCO did you attend?

I was interested in Avionics as when i was a school, i did work experience at a private work place where i was a aicraft trainee. I went around all the different departments and the one that interested me was avionics. I am still interested in this career. I have just finished an apprentiship in electronics, hopefully my experience in electronics will help me in avionics.

Do you have any mates that are in the RAF?

Hi Sharon,

i went to te bristol AFCO. I live in swindon so its either there or oxford.

I know 2 people that are in the RAF. One is a regiment gunner, and one is starting as an aircraft engineer this year. I only know them through other friends so dont get the chance to chat to them often.

Do you have any friends in there?

You seem to have alot of experience in electronics so you should be well ahead of everyone else. Do you know much about the aircraft the RAF use?

I have some mates in the RAF, one is a very good mate of mine, he works with radar and has been in there for about 4 years now and absolutly loves it. I speak to him on a weekly bases.

When i was doing my HNC, one of the guys i used to hang around with was in the RAF. The RAF sent him on a day release course.

I have been reading up on what aircraft i could be working on, but i only know some names, I will probably look into it on more detail as there is a lot of information to take in. How about your self?

i havent been in any cadets, how about you?

I dont know alot about the aircraft they use, it will definitely be something i will need to research on. also i may research RAF history etc a bit more just to get ahead.

Hi ya,

I didn't attend cadets either, but my ex boyfriend was a cadet leader in the air cadets, so i sometimes went down with him too see what they did. There was some RAF service people helping them out so i to them about what the RAf is like etc.

I spoke to my mate from the RAF today and asked him about if i should learn about the aircraft, but he said i didn't need to bother, but i am going to any way just out of interest, also it might give me a head start in what type of aircraft i would be interested in working on.

So what are you currently doing at the moment i.e college, uni, work... till you have a reply back from the AFCO?
