Improvements to Military Forums
Well from my point of view it's a fine idea.
I've been searching through these forums for about a week and have found answers to all the questions that I had in the back of my head (By the way thanks guys). I hadn't posted before now mainly due to not really knowing enough usefull information to help anyone out.
If threads in the members area remained viewable then it whould allow people who are serious about a career in the RM to search for what information they needed.
Personally if I had an important question I'd be happy to turn over a fiver for the chance at some sound advice

Well I'd be happy to pay a fiver. The wealth of information on here, and advice, both from experienced people and fellow wannabes is invaluable. Like I've said somewhere else on the forum, by asking a few daft questions on here, and getting a quick smack round the ear
from the experienced types, I learn not to say or ask daft things again, which may prove very good in the long run. As for all the wannabes, everybody has ideas and theorys, and it all gets thrown into the melting pot, which, if not helpfull, is certainly amusing, especially when the older fellows (no offence) get wind of our ramblings. Anyway, a big yes to paying to get rid of the dorks (unless you consider me one of course, in which case, boooooooo!!). Let me know when you want it. BFC.

Now then, then now, now then now, now then. Never poo poo a poo poo. Damned stout fellow.

Must say its a fair deal, information has been absolutely invaluable. Even to the extent that id say it must be a damn sight harder to pass selection without the info available on this site. Must say I havent seen a great deal of any lil oiks making a nuisance of themselves, just the odd one or two. However, it makes life easier for you guys and leads to a greater availability of info then rock on!
I’m glad I placed the topic in the forum now. We are getting an idea of how these proposals would affect the guys needing info before joining. It would seem that we need the ability to have postal payments.
The mods have been dealing with a whole bunch of Walter Mittys and doomers recently. Idiots who spout off about having been in the SBS/SAS and coming out with ridiculous claims about their experiences, when in fact they are still in Year10! Some of them were posting Topics such as “Which is best RM or SAS”. This is inane and crass, cannot be answered sensibly and jars off the majority of users, consequently the people who have information to pass onto you, (the future members of the Corps), were asking to leave the site. It was only by recognising these problems, and acting, quite harshly, that we have eradicated most of the idiots. As a consequence the tolerance levels of Sticks, Harry and Prezzykins were at an all time low.
Please remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. At CTC you will be told “If you don’t know ask”
. Don’t be embarrassed, you may well be pointed at the Search facility, but usually the time will be taken to respond.
Joe makes a valid point about filling in an application form. Unfortunately many people do not fill in the Profile page accurately. It is another way of spotting our undesirables. It may be changed slightly in the future to include service background/units/specialisations. The other point about a site which died after starting to charge is equally valid, but may be countered by the example of Friends Reunited, where after charging a fiver the membership rocketed as the quality of the site, and the membership rose. We have to try, or stagnate and lose our experienced and helpful members.
Keep the questions and feedback coming please. It will help Jay decide what he wants to achieve.

I do not agree with the new fee system. Although only a wanabee, I have been frequentng this site for some 17 months. I innitially turned to this site as it was (is) an invaluable source of knowledge on the Corps and other wider military and unrelated issues. It is vital for preparation for the PRMC and RM and is now becomming as valuable to the other wanabees interested in their particular reg.
Why no fee should be introduced:
-I agree that the sudden influx of Gobshites is unpalatable but by introducing a fee I anticipate that the inflow of bona fide users will dry up.
-Logistical difficulties in paying the fee.
-Bad track record for fee paying websites.
-Fundamentally 99.99% of the users are of good track record on the posts and only the 0.01% are twatting it up.
Solution:
Would it not be easier to have an area(s) of the forum dedicated to Moderator approved users (old and bold etc.) who would, on good conduct or particular vested interest, be granted access to that area of the forum (password protected or some such thingey). Should a twat get through this net he could have his 'access' revoked. This would enable the wanabees to continue to use the pertinant areas of the forum for free and let the Old and Bold have their own dedicated and secure area in the forum without interuption from twats.

Actually I agree with faddius now. Theres people who wont want to pay 5 quid because they dont come on here enough and if they have to pay they wont bother at all. His solution was a better idea.

i think fadius made an excellent suggestion about the password secured areas but i stll agree with the mods about getting rid of these idiots.I think it would be best if all suggestions would be taken on board and then let the owner and mods decide between them what action has to be taken.

"take cover" the worst thing you will hear at PRMC
All your ideas are being considered. Faddius makes a good argument for not having a fee. These are all being added to the mix, thanks for the constructive input.

I agree with other people how invaluable the information and support provided by this site is. I met Mark (aka Sticky) on here and the support he has provided to me is immense. I was just 16 on application and started off as rough as possible being put on a 6 month encourager period straight from the interview. Now I know that the improvements over this time were needed. Without Sticky's support I might not be here today, more determined than ever.
A lot of us under 18's have Solo cards. Most internet cash exchanges provide compatibility with this as it is a very usuable card.
Cheers,
Ash

fees
Prez et al,
I'm with the free group. It's not the fiver that bothers me but I'm basically lazy so if something on the Net is too much of a pain in the a** I normally try somewhere else.
I find this to be an invaluable site since my son of 16 decided to try to join the RM (like someone else said " How does anyone without access here ever pass the PRMC") but the lazy one in me may never get around to sending in the fiver.

I agree with joe's idea! New people wanting to join should submit a short letter of application from which the moderators will be able to decide who is worthy of membership! I have found this site very useful and worthwhile! It helped me prepare for my PRMC and motivated me to train harder! Thanks to all the moderators!
I wouldn't be too fussed about paying a fiver, but it might put others off!

I'd happily pay the £5, it's all been too useful so far. But I agree with Faddius' points, I'm not sure it'd work. The given solution sounds like a good plan, although it'd be less so if all the useful information ends up in the restricted area - what would be there otherwise to attract the new members?
