SAS are you tough enough 2
Surely, anyone can be tough for two whole weeks?
In the same vein, ins't it a bit like in "resistance to interrogation techniques/trg"? You might get roughed up a bit but you know you're never actually going to get your fingernails ripped out, b*****ks ripped off or end up dead.
I've often wondered how/if I'd have coped, faced with those possibilities. Something tells me I would have said, "And exactly what was it you wanted to know, sir? Happy to help in any way I can just put away that red hot poker." (OK, Rob, so it's the Richard II thing again!?!? I'm going to talk to my therapist about it!)

I dreaded flying along one day and suddenly seeing a snake rising from behind the instrument panel. Well what would you do? We used to get huge moths taking flight, and wafting around the cockpit. Opening a side window suddenly put them in freefall at 6000' over the oggin.

You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Well my first impressions on the programme are interesting. The people who were picked for the program were very fit people, but 2/3rds do not seem to be built for the environment. They are carrying 50-100 Ilbs of kit which is still less then the real SAS.
The one factor that would fail most people would be the soaring humidity. How can u train for that?
I did think that it would have a feew more Ex -SAS people giving them grief to keep reminding them of how hard it is.
I wouldnt have thought that cans of coke etc would be hidden either. Maybe rats of that smelly sh*t.

You cannot train to cope with the debilitating humidity, only try and counter it with the right amount of water and ingesting salt etc. 30 or 32 degrees doesn't sound very warm, but added to 90% humidity and you'll be on your knees in no time. I used to play rugby out there and after the game just pour pints of water and softies down my neck, then fall into the pool, or was I thrown, never found out!

SAS theme aside, I thougt it was interesting though particularly given the amount of people, civilians included, who wander around jungles with dirty great bergens in the name of tourism, they didn't seem to cope very well. Ones like that woman who quit early on was understandable, as the difference between Scotland and a jungle is rather large
. And perhaps naively, I'm now more keen than ever on jungle warfare in the RM
.
Just as a side note: The SAS as far as I know use C7/C8's, though similar enough to the M4 for TV purposes. And I don't need to tell you why they don't use the SA80 (that said, they did apparently use Styr AUG's in Sierra Leone).
