Only thing I can find is this;
Gurkha Independent Parachute Company; This unit, formed from volunteers from all five regiments of Gurkha Rifles as well as the Queen's Gurkha Signals, was raised in 1963, with the original role of airfield seizure for 17th (Gurkha) Infantry Division. However with the shortage of SAS troops during the " Confrontation " with Indonesia, its role was changed. Like the Guards Company the Gurkhas were retrained by SAS instructors and deployed under the command of 22SAS. The company was disbanded in 1971, when British forces were withdrawn from Malaysia.

Active service: Borneo Oct 1964-April 1965, Sept 1965-April 1966.

When I was out in Miri, Sarawak, one of our props was a Malay Police Inspector, whose grandfather had taken heads. He was a very mild man, until prodded in the chest and told that the tight head prop opposite him had muttered that he was a pooftah. Kelab Rugby Football Miri, lottsa points - Royal Brunei Malay Regt, nottso many points. 8)

Everything ive read or heard of them describes them as some of the finest soldiers in the UK. Anyone else think it strange we have cut down their numbers so drastically?.

Very professional and courteous. Once a couple of them held a door open for me because I was carrying a folder!

I think their appeal for better pay and pension was a success. Anyone confim it?

Unfortunately the appeal was turned down by the weasels because it is considered that the sum they receive is actually quite good money for the environment in which they live. Literally, 'they are a lot better off than their countrymen'. The whole thing sucks and is a disgrace which no parliamentarian or shiny seated civil servant should be permitted to decide. The senior officer Ghurkas should be the man making the decision. (I know that's impossible) It's appalling what Blair and Co spend on slamming Hussein, whilst refusing to look after trusted and heroic servants of the Crown. :evil: :evil: The very people they willingly put in the front line in the Falklands.

100% agree with you in the Gurkha's being mis-treated. no excuse and no good reason, racism within the forces is being stamped out yet the MoD seem happy enough to continue this racist policy.

It certainly seems bad, but you might want to have a look at http://www.arrse.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb1/Ya ... 86;start=0 - apparently being fair would unbalance the Nepalese economy, so could do more harm than good. It still seems quite simply wrong to me though :(.

Where the system really falls over is in the case of a Gurkha who wishes to remain in this country, especially if he has brought his family here, which is rare, but happens.
