Chappy, dogwatch is one of the 79% you quoted or perhaps in his case 21%.
We all know polls are as good as the researchers and questionees, having taken part in a few I'd not trust any of the responses I gave...
"Do you think the police should be armed Stix?"
"Yes, with tanks"

My view on the question of arming police is slightly hazy! I used to be of the opinion that police should not be armed when carrying out general duties because the vast majority of criminals did not carry guns and it may have encouraged them to do so. Also, police officers used to be treated with respect by many members of the public so the likelihood of them being harmed in their duties was considerably less. However, now, the police are treated with complete contempt by many people, particularly young people. Also, carrying a firearm has become a mark of "respect" and "power" in certain communities meaning that many everyday incidents are turning into shootouts. Also, i'm going to say it because I believe the users on here are intelligent enough to understand; the majority of gun crime in the last few years, (in the period since the sudden rise) was committed by young black and asian youths from inner-city "ghetto like" communities who show no respect for the rule of law and seem to view crime as an acceptable path in life. I do not believe I am wrong in saying that this sort of ghetto society did not exist a decade ago, I for one do not believe the blame for the increased gun crime on our streets should be shared by the whole country, but by certain groups in particular. Notably, young black and asian youths.
Perhaps the most telling part of your last response is that werent prepared to answer the question about what you do, always love to hear strong opinions about something from somebody who doesnt have to deal with the problem, me Navy News is my bag.
You were only supposed to blow the Bloody Doors Off....
Point taken Stix.

Your right Dogwatch, I think I`ll adopted the 'Dogwatch way of argument'.
'What do you think of Gays in the Army?'
I`m not Gay so really couldnt give a good answer.
'What do you think of Fox hunting?'
Yet again, never been a fox so how can my answer hold any weight.
'Will education reform really make any change?'
Hmm, not a teacher nor a 9 year old adolescent so I cant possibly answer that.
'Should Police have firearms?'
Never had a dangerous 'job' therefore not qualifed to answer that at this present time, but if the time ever comes where I enter a said dangerous job. I will instantly become qualified to answer that. After all we live in a altered Facist state.

Terry. Its a forum for discussion, particularly this thread. You must have ran out of things to say to call a bite. I only get angry at people who dont agree with speed cameras and pregnant women who go out on Saturday nights.
PS. If you think my response in the prior post was long....well........anyway, my armchair calls.

Guess what?
I live in a land where the filth carry shooters all the time.
Do I feel threatened by this?
Er, hello
I feel threatened by the level of skills demonstrated by WA Police in other areas though
Armed coppers is the way forward. The simple idyll of the Good Old British Bobby has not been reality since the fifties. Why send guys out there to deal with the unknowns, without them being tooled up for the job.
Give the Bill real shooters right now.
The sooner they start shooting innocent Brazilians, er oops sorry, can`t help taking the piss out of SO19

Dubya was very upset when he heared a Brazilian guy had been topped in that London. Jeeze, that`s terrible, how many is a brazilian, by the way

Police with Fire arms........You only have to look at all the fuss over the Army and them shooting people armed people in civilian clothes in Iraq to know what sort of mine field this would open up. Before drawing their weapon they would know doubt have to go back to a the police station and fill in a risk assessment form, and get written authorisation from the Home Office [During Office Hours Only] out of hours you would keep them talking until such time as the chief constable has been brought from his bed to see if such action is warranted.
Seem as though this is an .co.uk domain with a forum full of UK citizens talking about an incident that happenend in the UK. Isnt it fair to assume I was actually talking about the Police in the USA....oh wait I mean UK.Wholley wrote:As we are all Firearms trained(It's part of POPAT in this country)Firearms should be available to a small number of appropriately trained officers
Where did your arguement go?'A small number of appropiatley trained officers.?
Get a Life.

Chappy, moved your last post!
As you said in a previous thread.
"
I would have to agree with you as to your occupation as you state in your bio.
Rover
As you said in a previous thread.
"
Tried to go around the world once, but was stopped by the traffic lights in Hong Kong.I always wanted to join too, parents advised against it at 16.
I went to College, then Uni and after that I still never applied! I got a job, one where I get lots of free drinks, have millions of semi naked teenage girls around me and get to meet big name DJs.
All the memories and experiences I've had,I can pretty much guarantee wouldnt have been possible if I joined at 16.
I'm just starting to get the ball rolling at the age of 23........well, theres only so many semi naked teenage girls you can look at before it gets boring!"

I would have to agree with you as to your occupation as you state in your bio.

Condolences
This Topic was raised as an expression of condolences from members of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
It's a shame that the expression of sympathy from the US wasn't acknowledged and continued in that vein.
Perhaps the debate on the incident, the arming of police in the UK and the settlement of personal arguments could perhaps be left to another day and in another Thread.
My sympathy and thoughts go to the family of the fallen police officer.
