OK - OK - Clubs ! you got me there Loz..... :D

This weekend I was only on the back page - midsummers eve -(in civvies)

Goldie - Can't knock the exotic Gateshead of my chilhood - exotic it was,
gasometers, shipbuilding, munitions factories, coal mines, gas cooking,
gas lighting (mantles)(fumes), bombing etc etc...everyone 'born with asthma'....
'The Tyne, The Tyne, the coaly Tyne the Queen of aall the rivers'
the butt of jokes - but we had to live there. I started off in Bensham...

The synagogue was just off Coatsworth Road, end of Bewick Road......
Our jews were an OK community - it was the Leeds jews who crucified Christ.
The jews who landed at Newcastle were the first to come to the UK.
They drifted over to Gateshead much later.

You must be a 'Tyne and Wear' lad.... I never accepted the change !
Kept on writing County Durham on my mail - and still do.....

I know Lobley Hill quite well as I have had both friends and some family
there from the very early days.

Gateshead and Middlesbrough schools shared summer camp together
in my childhood - at Dukeshouse Wood Camp School, Hexham.

Wey Aye.....

There is one bloke you're all missing out: directly responsible for more deaths than all of the above combined.

Sir Walter Raleigh introduced tobacco into the developed world. What a guy!!

What about some of the little Barstewards in this day and age?

One who comes to mind is Mr Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. His latest idea about knocking all the Shanty towns down is going to end in a lot of innocent people dieing. If he had Oil the west would be straight in there kicking the little Git out on his ear. But no, lets leave to the other African States, most of which are run by evil little buggers just like him!

Give a few years and Africa is going to be a massive problem for everyone. One child dies every three seconds at the moment. Christ knows what it is going to be in a couple of years. It beggars belief it really does.

Pilgrim, we also went to Hexam mate but the good trips were to Holy Island as we had a local shop to steal things from and the choggie would sell us fags even though we were only 12.
If the fumes from ICI and British Steel didn't kill us then the B and H would.
We got mega posh and moved to Billingham when i was about 5 so i escaped the "Canny bag of Tudor" voice.
After being in the mob for 10 years and now living 4 hours south of Boro in Worcestershire everyone thinks im well posh when i go back up home and start speaking lol but you can take the kid from the North East but never the North East from the kid

Stalin was also so profligate with his troops lives during the war that their estimate of war dead is continuing to rise. It's now at about 27 million war dead as well. A friend of mine, her mother only found out where her first husband was buried 3 years ago when another mass war grave was found.

Guy Sajer's book is great, but Grossdeutschland wasn't an SS formation, it was Wehrmacht.
