Well well Si - I was the one either sticking up or taking down the
posters I'd had made up of our Fiftieth Anniversary - and I
promised to send over a copy for the 'Wall'...... We'll need it there
for our Sixtieth or whatever
JR - you are the veritable Three Badger - Fantastic rabits you produce -
I knew that I should have made it to the 60th !
First Tiger Beer at the 59th and now a mug - you really are priceless -
Once the awe and elation has lessened - and the tide has gone out a bit
( still have a high water tidal thingy round the eyeballs, Adam's apple
still rotating ) I'll come back 'ere with a sitrep on the Reunion.
As I've said - "Every man should have a day like that"......
The day was extremely well planned by the lads on the ground in the UK.
32 met up - some with wives, a couple of us without.
Everyone had a ball. Peel away a few lines here and there - subtract a
few kilo, re-colour the hair a shade darker, leave the walking sticks in the hall, mask over the second pace maker, have a tot or two and the years
just roll away....... the walk, the talk is just the same.
Perhaps even better than during training - in those days we had enough
just trying to stay 'with it' - now we'd already been there, done that and
could relax - haven't had so much fun for yonks. Some had served
together but some had not met up since training. Fantastic.
I will still continue to try tracing others of our number - they deserve it.
The bottom line here is that 654 now have a network - and will stay in
touch, have meetings 'now and then' - the wives know each other and
all is well with the world.
If you others don't want to end up having your Reunion in a 'phone box -
you'd best be starting now like ...... I assure you - it IS worth the effort.
The day was also the big day for the Kings Squad - 916
We had no opportunity to talk to them - but we wished them well via their
parents who were present ( watching us old duffers stagger past ).
Just do it - because you're worth it.....
