Post by Goose »

Just a bit of a spin off of Mr. Hackedoff's on this day.

On me berfday the 24 th August in the mists of time British troops burnt down the white house. Could've been 1805. :new-bday:

Also Mount vesuvius erupted destroying Pompeii.

Anybody else?

January 14th 1878 - W. H. Preece demonstrated Alexander Graham Bell's new invention, the telephone, to Queen Victoria at Osborne House. On the first private connection by telephone in Great Britain, which was made on the Isle of Wight, Queen Victoria spoke to Thomas Biddulph.

Apparently the next day Queen Victoria got a phone call from a double glazing company offering her a fantastic deal on windows. Buy one get one free. (she declined and was the first person to go ex directory) :o

Apparently it was the Royal Marines who went around torching Washington. They left the US Marine barracks untouched out of respect.

I was too busy swimming hard on my birthday to remember anything else.
