I saw that advert your on about. Thats what made my mind up to join the RM. At the mo-im awaiting a start date at Hendon police college for the Met police-but thats almost approaching its 1st birtday-ie- i bin waiting a year. So i thought sod it-if im gonna have to wait for ages-i want something worthwhile to come out of it at the end-ie- green beret. And that blue uniform looks bloody smart too! :D

I agree. Id get a lot more out of the RM. I didnt opt this way in the 1st place because i didnt think i was upto it. But now-after being ''fecked over'' by the Met-im determined to do this. Im not trying to be discriminative, but because the Met has to reach its quota for the ethnic minority officers, their applications are fast-tracked through. Thats fair enough-i can understand why, but its the fact most of us have been waiting almost a year to start training-and we could be putting the time to better use! Oh well-i know what im aiming for now-so we'll see how it goes.

yeah it sucks that they put the ethnics first. isnt this being racist or discriminating to others that want to join..

I know what you mean about that ad, im currently in the selection process for an Artificer in the navy but after i saw that ad i was well interested so i did alot of research on the marines and am now even more tempted  im stuck tryin too work out which to go for although im not that fit at the mo so it means some hard training before i apply. Its a bit harsh about that police forces ethnic minority situation but i guess there under alot of pressure from the government and the press.
Good luck luck with your application still a little way for me to go yet :P

You could always fill out two Met application forms. Place identical info on each, but put one in your normal name, and another under an alias; Yodude Gis Yawallet, from Kingston, Jamaica, not on-Thames springs to mind.
Wait for their reply, if they kick you back under your normal name, but accept the pseudonym then expose them for what they are. Don't plan on living near London though.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

My diet has changed- im on salads. Tuna/chicken/cheese you name it-as long as it goes in a salad-im on it. If i had it my way-id go down the gym every morning -every day instead of dragging my ass into work each day. My ''Peers'' say to earn as much money as possible to get a flat in London-but i keep saying whats the point. If i do push meself and get into the Rm,its not gonna be any use. I hear that Rm earn just under £10,000 a year. What exactly do people use their money for-i mean lodgings or whatever??

Starting rate just over £11k, goes up to about £12,300 when you pass out if I remember correctly. Then you can go on up to around £23k as a Mne, or higher if you go the NCO route. Some pay is spent on accomodation and board (though not a huge amount, it's all subsidised, I'm pretty sure it was £325/month roughly).

Not sure about that. I left 6 years ago on just under 13k. You can bump it up with para pay, divers pay and SF pay but 23k sounds great - think I'll rejoin :o When I left the Brig was 'only' on about 50k and that's some serious and sustained brown-nosing to get there (number of honourable exceptions to that of course).
