RM use of Goretex

Post by Imac »

I'm new to this Board and hope I have the right Forum.

Question: Do the Royal Marines use the same Soldier'95 goretexjacket and overtrousers as the Army?

I'm talking about the jacket wiothut external pockets, stow-away hood, etc.; trousers, elastico cuffs and waist, no pockets.

Cheers. :drinking:

Our goretex jackets have a hood and from memory pockets. The cuffs are a velcro type affair. I use an American one for fishing with the under arm zippers for ventilation but the US hodd is much better because it is like a baseball cap.

Royal is now issued with the new combat 95 waterproofs ( the ones without the pockets). I did, and some may still have the older type but mine were taken off me when we were given our 95s. This was a shame since the old type did actually seem waterproof unlike the 95 set which are rotten, a similar peformance to the old plastic "tea bags".

it should be the last layer.
it lets moisture escape, and keeps rain off.

And a deep and booming voice commandeth: (Loz)
"when the Green Lid is worn it shall be considered waterproof, bulletproof and fireproof!"
So buy the biggest beret in stores and you won't need goretex.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Why hasn't someone come out with the old chestnut -

"What do you need Gortex for? Skin's waterproof!"

But you see there you go again making the same old mistakes as thousands before you. Skin is not waterproof, that's why Crabs and Pongos go soggy in the rain. No waterproof Green Beret, sploosh, grey soggy mass crumples to the deck.
Umbrella anybody?

Well, someone had to.

What about the use of Gortex in tactical situations? You can't go around like a load of cattle theives.
