As this is an international forum what does everyone make of the fact that George W Bush is to be given the honour of a State Visit and the first US President since 1918 to get the slap up treatment accorded to such a dignitary.
The red carpets will be out, there will be slap up lunches and dinners, security is said to be costing £5 million and certain streets and areas will be 'no go' for Joe Bloggs, and Dubya will be staying with HM in Buck Pal.
Doesn't he have an aircraft carrier to land on this time?
I say jeer.
Let's not forget how he treated other heads of state, particularly those who didn't support his war against Iraq. One might argue that their not receiving the carpet treatment was justified in light of their opposition, but there're such things as protocol and good manners, of which he has none.
That chimp is all mouth.
I don't doubt he needs all the hooplah Tone's prepping for his visit in order to soothe his battered ego, but it's a ludicrously expensive circus paid for by UK tax-payers....
"But it's going to be a nerve-racking three days. "It's all thin ice," says a Foreign Office official. One element of unpredictability: Bush hates — really hates — the fuss and formality in which state visits are steeped. The last time he dined with the Queen — in 1992 at his father's White House, wearing cowboy boots emblazoned with GOD SAVE THE QUEEN — he asked if she had any black sheep in her family. "Don't answer that!" his mother Barbara interjected, trying to avoid embarrassment. This time he's the President, the man in charge. Whatever Bush does, Blair will have to live with it."

What an idiot. I am trying to mind my language, here, Sticks!
Go figure. I saw where the Whig party (republicans) where saying what a patriot Smirk is, well he was a fighter pilot during Vietnam, why didn't he patriotically volenteer for combat duty? See he obviously didn't beleive in the war my dad and uncles fought and were wounded in, tell me why should I beleive in his war?
As for the London vistit, hey it is campaign season, the American people will buy anything if it is advertised right, look at the Civil Rights (Socialist Revolution) in this country. Jessica "Payday" Lynch, ford trucks. Yep it is all about packaging.
Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)
Well from what I heard on the news he’s not getting half of London shut down, the protesters will be able to get right up to the side of the road, all be it, it will be fenced off...
The 5 million will also be protecting the London people, as it will be towards extra security in London against terrorism...

That should make it safer then, 5000 extra police in London to stop a suicide bomber, doesn't stop 'em in downtown Tel Aviv does it?
IMO he is as welcome here as his troops are on the streets of any Iraqi town. I have a lot of time for the American people but I just can't go along with this gun tottin' guy.

Lew I have also herd that they will not close the centre of London down for a few day's. But I don't believe a word of it, Tony will probably do what ever George want's. I personally think the idea is crap, if he thinks he's in so much danger in London, stay in the US.
Lew but if George was not coming to London then the government would not be spending the 5 million in the first place.
Stay on your ranch in Texas George.

Yeah i saw on the news all the goggle-eyed hippy protestor people, they are planning all types of stuff. They made a 30 ft paper mache' model of Bush but i dont know what they are going to do with it. Some of them said they were going to lay voodoo spells in him.
This is a quote from the BBC's Online pages today:
[Mr Bush said Mr Blair made decisions "for the right reasons".
"In my relationship with him, he is the least political person I've dealt with. And I say that out of respect. He makes decisions based upon what he thinks is right.
He's a smart, capable, trustworthy friend
George Bush on Tony Blair
"He's plenty independent. If he thought the policy that we have both worked on was wrong, he'd tell me."
Mr Bush's three-day trip, which begins next Wednesday, will be the first full state visit by a US leader since Woodrow Wilson in 1918.]
