BATTLE OF BRITAIN ?

Post by Marina »

Hello everyone,

I would like your help, please
I was asked this question: 'When did the RAF take part in "The Battle of Britain" ?' :-?

1) 1939
2) 1940
3) 1944

I think it was 1940 but I'm not sure.

The MOD has a good site if you need more info.

The original Italian job is far superior to the new one, just proves that big budgets do not guarantee quality. :D

Darren,
Most Americans don't even know what the Battle of Britian was. Most Americans have visions of Britian involving Longshanks chasing Mel Gibson around green cold hills with swords. They think of the Queen and Fergie. So why you so mad? Hollywood makes alot of inacurate movies. Look at the Vietnam flicks, none accurate, just emotional appeals. We have adressed this topic before, I'm an American and I don't claim we won the Battle of Britian, we did though win the Battle of Lexington though.
Deal is we Americans like you Brit's, we like you guys alot. I thought the Brit's liked us? We can't help what Hollywood does, like you can't help what Blair does. Just don't watch the movie. Look at GI Jane and think about how pissed SEAL/s are, do they hate America for that idiotic movie? No, they just didn't watch it.
I think you just have issues with Americans, so if that is the case, fire your little red rocket bitch. If not then my bad dawg. :new-bday:
Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)

Darren,

I doubt even Hollyweird could stretch the truth that far, although there were seven Americans who are officially recognised as taking part in the BoB, one was killed, six were killed before the end of the war and one survived.

Figures for 'The Few' were 2353 from Great Britain and 574 from overseas.

What will be interesting is who they cast, will RAF pilots be Americans Actors fresh out of the Dick Van Dyke school of English (‘ullo hit’s Mari Poppuns), and Luftwaffe pilots British Actors with dodgy German accents? :)

it just gets annoying when history is so distorted that people believe the Hollywood mith and not the reality.
I have alot of respect for some things American but there are things I would like to tell them as we say in Northern Ireland Have a titter of wit.
Until the documents were declassified it was down in history that the first electronic computer was an American invention when actually the first electronic computer was colossus at Bletchley but you still see in books etc the americans invented the computer.

Darren I know what you mean, did you know that it was a British engineer that made it possible for the allies to use super sonic flight, as he re designed the tale on jet planes, but this went down in history as an American brake through... :o

Nice one Spitz.
Dick Van Dyke indeed!
There seems to be a lot of movie re-makes around at the moment.
Could it be that Hollywierd is too busy playing anti-American politics?
Jennifer Anniston is off to the Mid-east to solve all their problems,so we can now rest easy.
The original Battle of Britain will always be the best imho.
"Op's,we either stand down or blow up.Which do you want?"
Michael Caine.
Still watch it.
In fact I might just watch it now.
Beats mulching leaves.
I HATE Fall.
