British citizen living in Australia. Interested in Sandhurst

Hi,
Title pretty much says it all. I'm 17 and have moved over to Aus in the last 5 months. I have been interested in becoming an officer in the household cavalry for some time now and I'd like to ask some questions.



Firstly i know its recommended that you have a degree before apply to join Sandhurst. So if i was to take a course on political science here in Australia would that qualify me to join?
GCSE wise i have two A's, four B's (Including English and Science) and two C's (maths and additional science). Is this up to the standards?

Lastly would i be able to choose what regiment and role i wanted upon graduation from Sandhurst? I.e household cavalry.

I've looked around a lot so any information on the questions I've asked would be much appreciated. Cheers!

No not yet, because in Aus the last years exams(which i should start in a few months) are equivalent to A levels (i think?) because i will need to get into uni in the first place.

It would be good if the army had representatives in Australia :S

You don't need to go to Uni, you're judged on your leadership not your qualifications, obviously going to university will mean you will be older and more mature (can be debated ), and in the UK there are University training corps that students can join to develop their soldiering and leadership skills.

Also, you'll be able to choose your regiment in like the second part of your officer training.

I had a friend who had exemplorary A level results, then a degree in Political sciences and also a few years in the TA and he didn't manage to get into Sandhurst, although this isn't related to answering it, can anyone one suggest why he didn't? He was always in smart clothes, maybe they thought he was too stuffy, ahem...

Mostly you will not be looked at unless you have a good science based degree.
This goes for Sandhurst,Dartmouth,VMI and West Point.

Hmm? Just passing on information I've read elsewhere really.

But there are officers within the Army/RAF/RN/RM that haven't got degrees, so it is achievable.

Just because someone that doesn't have a degree wasn't seen as officer material, doesn't mean it was due to the fact they don't have a degree.
