Dont tell the tankies who patrolled the streets of N.I.since the troubles started. I would have thought any unit available will go warfighting these days due to the CUTSeven if they are not upto strengththey can be brought up pretty quick nowadays

the israelis did that as a hostage rescue so maybe not completely impossible. Now those israelis know how to deal with terrorists when they take hostages

I know it sounds funny but I was in the CCF and ACF as a PI so spent a lot of time w/ the PWRR and saw them do it once... Dunno if it was just to see f it could be done but did see their Herc land and their landies come flying out the back... looked cool but i did think it was a stupid idea

The cheat, you're talking a bunch of crap fella, I reckon you're a 12 year old spotty lance jack in cadets. The army air corps DON'T provide infantry, they provide SOME heli support, but all the transport helis come from Joint Heli Command, cause the AAC only operate Lynx Gazelle & Apache (?? :o ) helicopter wise, none noted for their massive transport capabilities. Their's an attached line infantry unit that rotates in the air assault role, I doubt PWRR 'specialise' in TALO assaults, I know they were in 16 AAB so this is where that comes from I believe. Yes the Israelis did use TALO as a hostage rescue means, in some battered 3rd world African country on an all but deserted airport. Any airport with a few well placed MG positions could chew up a Herc. & the TALO troops coming out the ramp, I doubt a prior air attack would be able to knock out every position. If it did there wouldn't be much airstrip left to capture. it's a nice idea, I read in a book that a TALO attack was planned for the SAS in the Falklands, the lads heard this and decided it was just suicidal.

Peace keeping

BIGBART, if you dont know much about Tank regiments, whats the point in posting a reply? theres not much point

Since 1992 my Regiment has had tours peace keeping in N.I, (4 tours since 1994) Bosnia, Kosovo and Cyprus. And there is regts in the RAC that has done more

So there we go, us Tankies to take part in peace keeping, so in a nut shell you wasted a post through nothing but sheer ignorance

I spent many years with the 2nd battalion PWRR and i can assure you that we as a battalion carried out TALO whilst we were based at caterbury before our NI posting.
