Yomp vs TAB

Post by pushtiman »

Hi,

Posted similar topic in the RM section.

Just puzzled when I looked at the P-company 20 miler and was shocked how quick they do it which is 4 hours and 30 minutes, compared to the marines 30 miler where they take 8 hours to do it. How is it that for only 10 miles more it takes 3 and a half hours longer?

Is tabbing quite simply harder and thats the end of it? I always thought the point of yomping was that you were covering greater distances with more weight, hence the slower speed, however on the commando tests your carrying the same amount of weight as the paras on p - company, so why is it not completed in a quicker time than 8 hours?

Just a question on the different selection procedures.

Cheers

My understanding is that Tabbing is somewhere in between RM Speedmarching and Yomping,
in that it you carry more weight than a speedmarch but less than a yomp,
and the speed is therefore slower than a speedmarch but faster than a yomp.

Also, to address your 30/20 miler question, to maintain that speed for another 10 miles wouldn't just be straight forward because you'd be so tired by the end of it, so maybe the 30 miler is slower paced because of this.

Same question,
two different threads,
two different answers.
Confused yet?

You will be.

Please try to keep to a one question one thread discipline.
I could see you were impatient for an answer but keep an inner peace young Jedi,

I'm trying but this young jedi wants to be a master :2gunfire: lol

Thought I'd get the paras opinion. But yes it wouldn't be marching at 5 mile an hour as it is with the 20 miler tab, as obviously for example if you ran a 1 miler at 6 minutes, you wouldn't cover that 1 mile in 6 minutes if you were running 1.5 mile, as obivously you have a consistant speed to cover the distance, so naturally your pace is lower.

So that has to be factored in, but its seem like a para might be able cover that same distance (30 miler) quicker? As abaoce, the para wouldn't cover 20 miles in 4 hours if he was doing a 30 miler, it might be more like 4 and a half or 5 hours, so you might exspect a 30 miler done in 6 and a half hours?

And dartmoore's fairly flat isn't it? And the brecons are very hilly?

I am definitely confused now haha, Im pretty sure Dartmoors not flat mate (and definitely not the best place to be yomping over!).. And speaking from experience of catterick, I know there’s a few steep hills and some rough terrain but mostly paths (gravel/stones layered with sheep sh*t in some places) out the back area.

I think ofens answer sounds pretty good, I wonder what the paras have to say about it though?

Lol this has been some question lad!
