Can someone help me to identify this piece of apparatus

Can someone help me to identify this piece of equipment that fits on top of these helmets that keep the goggles in place?.

Could it be a clip for night vision goggles

It's a mount of some kind.
Possibly as above, or maybe for a helmet mounted camera?
Looks like it's intended to be fixed securely to the helmet so that wherever the helmet wearer looks it will be pointed.
Also I noticed that the top of it fits round the goggles, possibly suggesting it was designed with this helmet and goggle set in mind.
It also looks like it should pivot forward (the lever pointing to 2 O'clock looks like a thumb-wheel tightening pivot) allowing the goggles to be stretched up then forward and over the device to allow the user to wear them, in which case the device could not be very big.

Definately a bracket for the US night vision goggles which clip onto the bracket. The goggles snap into place easily so the guys leave the bracket on during the day when they dont need them and then just clip them on when they go out in the dark hours.- Bungy

Its an NVG mount as mentioned earlier, you'll need to find out what make to get the right name.
