Lack of discipline these days!
Re: Are parents too soft today?
Yes.
Lack of discipline, moral courage, basic virtues, and not enough playing in the mud and climibing through bushes.
Dirty, wet, cold, cut and bruised knees, all make the body tougher and the immune system develops.
We live in a cotton-wool nanny-state now.

Re: Are parents too soft today?
I generally find kids getting away with too much.
There's a few things I'd like to tell some kids these days, here it is:
1. You need to work for what you want, complaining won't get you anywhere. If you don't want something enough, then quit.
2. You need to respect other people, other people need to respect you. If you don't, you might just get punched in the face someday.
3. Authority can be abused, stand up to injustice. But realize when you can learn from others.
4. Our bodies were made to move and our brains were made to think. So don't just study all day, but don't just play all day either.

Re: Are parents too soft today?
Not meaning to sound like an old "things were better in my day" type, (I'm only 27) but when I think about how I was brought up & the things I read about in the paper/see on documentaries now, I'm inclined to agree with you. The concept of discipline & having boundaries of any kind simply doesn't exist. But the bottom line is that it's all down to the parents. Mothers are a lot younger-producing 3 or 4 kids that they can't look after by the time they're 17 is all too common. And they are doing a disgusting job of bringing their kids up. Kids bringing up kids basically.Tab wrote:The simple answer to that question is YES

Caught the last 5 mins of a programme on TV the other night about trialling ex-servicemen trained up as teachers in state schools. And all seemed to be changing in the younger generation in this state school.
If all is successful, the plan might be rolled out nationwide... anyone else see it?
Sorry didn't even clock what channel it was on.
