Claustrophobic
My boyfriend has joined the army and is shortly going to begin his training. He passed all the tests fine but is he very claustrophobic and is worried this might effect him whilst training and after. He is not sure whether he tell the officers etc. He has been told that some of the training involves small spaces. This has started to put him off and i don't want him to change his mind about the army purely for this reason! Has anyone got any advice i can pass onto him?? Thank you x

Re: Claustrophobic
Claustraphobia is very definataley something he needs to discuss with his training team.
Like many other psychological problems it could rear up and bite him(and his oppos) at a most inopportune moment, such as being down range in a fire fight.

Re: Claustrophobic
He'll either learn to overcome his fears, or they will become apparent to his instructors anyway. But probably best if he discusses it with his instructors first so that they can work on a strategy to try and get him to overcome it, rather than push him straight into the deep end without knowing there may be an irrational phobia hidden away to deal with.......
Plenty of guys have an irrational fear of heights when they first join up... the training regime generally allows those soldiers to build up slowly to a point where they are soon more than capable of running across narrow planks set high up off the ground in a trainasium environment.... The same may be true to the claustrophobic soldier. The first time he goes into the gas chamber will be a test on how strong his fear is though.....
If he has decent instructors (and your bf is a good lad) then they'll work on him and the next time you see him he'll be in the regimental caving team.... Alternatively, he'll be spending his weekends and evenings being locked up inside tight, dark, confined spaces by the 'hardmen of the training depot' for their amusement........
He perhaps needs reminding that he's spent nine months in a confined space before and it worked out alright.....
