What do you want more detail about mate? I've done all of that except gym test 2 on prmc, so fire your questions ahead. I’l try my best and remember what I can for you. Try using the search button as well there’s hundreds of threads about joining up.

More chance of "that happening" in Kansas, Dorothy, which is clearly where we are not.

Lol I wouldn’t blame old age Wholley, I’m nightshift this week and bored out of my tits so I've been checking the forums every 2 minutes!

Anyway I'll give these 'questions' a crack..

what level of english and math skills are they looking for?

The test you do is the same for everyone joining the navy (or at least it used to be).. So there will be questions you'll struggle with if you aren’t great at maths etc.. You get given a practice booklet before you actually do the test, so as long as you study that and do a little practice of your own you should be fine (you don’t need to be a university graduate to be a bootneck, remember this test is the same for engineers etc). I’m not the greatest at maths so I done A LOT of extra revision on doing sums etc.. Mechanical comprehension is just problem solving, the practice questions you get in the booklet are pretty much the same as you'll do in the test. They are common sense really, some are hard but just get on with it and have a guess. If you want I can have a look for my booklet and give you an example, not sure where it is though its been four years now!

What level of fitness are they looking for?

lol.. Where do I begin, basically you need to be up to the required standards for entry. Have you looked them up yet or do you want me to type them out? 20/30 sit ups or push ups is pretty low, you should be aiming for at least 40/50+ push ups (60 for maximum points), 80+ sit-ups although for some reason people struggle with these so I would say a minimum of 60??? I can do 102 in 2 minutes so Im not sure what most people normally get. Also would be good if you can do 6 pull ups (maximum points) but atleast 4/5! A non serving bootie told me that you can never do enough pull ups. The more the better, the corporals are looking for effort and determination just as much as overall fitness. You also need to be able to run 3 mile comfortably, the run has changed since I done it so I wont tell you to much about that except warning you that the warm up before the run consists of sprints etc. You need good CV fitness to pass, a bleep test, the assault course, bottom field and gym test 2 are all going to take a lot out of you (a lot of sprinting etc). Especially on bottom field, that’s when mental strength has a big part to play!

I wouldn’t worry to much AS LONG as you put the training in beforehand! Failing to prepare is preparing to fail! They aren’t looking for super fit athletes, just someone that’s fit enough to start basic and put the hard work in.

swim test?

Simple.. You get into your speedos and sandals, que up along the side of the pool to the diving board (its quite high just cant remember how much feet lol), then one by one jump into the pool and swim from one side to the other. You are marked on your swimming abilities mate so I would get yourself down to your local pool and start getting some lengths in, remember the royal marines are an amphibious force.

Threw the whole thing, would keeping my mouth shut, not bitching and following everything down to the last letter help?

What do you think lol.. Everytime a corporal asks you to do something just call him a tosser and tell him to f**k off!

Keep your mouth shut unless spoken to mate, when they ask you to do something do it double time.. don’t laze about, look lively and PAY ETTENTION.

The special forces part is stupid lol.. Your asking if 20/30 push up sit ups is average, I would worry about passing the commando course before even thinking of anything like that.

Anyway good luck, any more questions just ask. You could have found all of that out by searching this site and google by the way, try using your initiative mate.

the special forces part would sound dumb coming from someone of any age mate lol.. set your first goal to getting fit enough to get into BASIC TRAINING.. then to FINISHING TRAINING... After a couple years you never know what might happen.

Further to my single line above, let me just say good luck with your application :-)
No offence intended but expect harsh humour and p*** takes, you'll start to enjoy it hopefully.

.............................................

If I dont get accepted for a course at college this is what I'm doing ? 'Come on Matt' You honestly believe that its gonna be an option for you if you cant work hard enough to get a place on some college course ? Is this some last minute option than you simply believe you can breeze into ? To be a bootneck you need the desire and will power to get you through. Fitness alone wont do it. Your talking as if its a last straw, last option for you when all else fails. Stop kidding yourself. 2011/2012 the Corp is reducing the intake to a third. Only 750 guys passed last year. So your the kid who can cut the mustard and be one of the 250 guys next year that will achieve a lifetime ambition ? Spaces are precious. Do yourself a favour and dont take up something that you cant deliver on. You will only make a fool of yourself explaining why you didnt make it, when to me its clearly obvious.
