Loads of good boots around, Danners, Lowe's etc etc. However your son should spend his time running in trackshoes and doing some gym work. He'll get boots when he joins.

Good luck to him.

sapper, your lad will possibly do more harm than good by running in boots and/or running with a bergan.

well if he's gonna do it (really there is no need to and as said may do more harm than good) then get him some issue boots and bergen but suggest long distance walks, i.e on hilly terrain. less risk of injury due to impact and prob just as good for stamina/endurance. keep weight in bergen to around 35lb - 45lb mark. issue boots in my opinion are prob up there with the comfiest iv worn and have cheaper price plus if he looks after them he could wear them during recruits and they would already be broken in.

There is no need to train in boots, boot runs are few and far between in basic training now. Potentially you could do some damage training with weight and in boots. Training will build you up whilst in training.
Tell him to keep up his running and CV work, anything else is not worth the risk.
