Junior Marines

Post by Sisyphus »

I knew the upper age limit for joining had been increased from 29 to 33 some while ago (presumably because of a lack of recruits?). However, I've just found out the lower age limit has been reduced to 15 years and 9 months from 16th birthday. :o Did this happen at the same time the upper limit was increased to 33?

What is the routine for training Juniors these days? Presumably it's all done at Lympstone. It used to be 10 months at Deal, before starting training 'proper' at Lympstone. Has this 10 months been extended by 3 months to allow for the reduced entry age? Or what?

I joined at 16 yrs, 1 month, 2 days and passed out the day before my 17th birthday. I don't think there was a minimum age limit for active deployment those days - until after the McCaig brothers were murdered in N.I. in the late 60s(?)

Are lads now passing out at age 16 yrs 8 months? And what happens to them until they can be deployed on active service at 18?

Pretty sure 15 years and 9 months is when they can start the application process, they cant start rt until after there 16th birthday or be deployed operationally until after there 18th.

Im sure someone will be along to correct me if im wrong :)
