Royal Army Veterinary Corps or Royal Artillery.....HELP!!!!

Post by shaunus89 »

Ive just completed my BARB test, and ive bene interested in being a dog handler/trainer with the RAVC. i have heard that this is one of the toughest occupations in the army to get into - but i want to hear from anyone serving currently or in the process of joining. i was told by my recruiter that i may have to wait up to a year in order to join - and so i was considering the royal artillery as i dont think i can wait that long to be a soldier.

Then again lots of people are telling me to stick to what i originally intended to do, so i was wondering if anyone knows when the selction board for the RAVC sits, and if they are actually taking on this year.

Any info is greatly apreciated :)

RAVC

I applied to join RAVC as dog handler over a year ago. After your ADSC (mine was last July) you have to attend a two day interview with the RAVC at Melton Mowbray. The RAVC are running these interviews next month. I would've thought that they'd all be full.

So yes you may have to wait a year or more, but it depends what you want to do. This is the only job I want to do so I've waited for it.

Best of luck in making your decision.

Hi Shaun,

Your choices are a huge distance apart from wanting to work with dog to the RA. However yes the RAVC are recruiting even if we only recruit small numbers.

The way it works is once your ACIO/AFCO sends me your docs, i will then load you on to a selection board, its then down to you to impress the board members.

I have just run boards over the last 2 weeks, as welshnoggin has mentioned, which welshnoggin was on and is currently waiting results.

Just stick with it and you never know you to could be in one of the best jobs in the world.

all the best
