Hi this topic will probably get deleted soon incase of arguments, but i really do want to know what life is like in the Royal Marines.
I would like to either go Royal Marines or The Parachute Regiment when I am fit enough, and in my mind the Royal Marines are more elite and if I was to get into 42 commando that is close to my home.
So what is life like in the Royal Marines, I know quite a bit about them and I know how hard the training is so dont mistake that cheers.

If you want to stay close to your home, I would suggest the armed forces are not for you...I was to get into 42 commando that is close to my home

Steve Preece's books are well recommended.
I've read "Amongst The Marines" and it's a really good read.
Each chapter is like a short story about an event during his time in the corps and most enjoyable and accessible.
I meant in my last post (as friendly advice ) that it's best to avoid the Paras/Marines debate,
although if you do a search on here you'll be able to read lots of viewpoints and arguments & pros/cons that have been stated already

If you wish to learn about the Royal Marines I can recommend the book
'Man Down' by Mark Ormord.
Look him up on the net too.
Mark explains the Corps ethos perfectly -
You will find fierce loyalty under both the green and the maroon berets.
You will also on these pages find people who are fiercely loyal to each other.
That is known as Esprit de Corps - again, ask Mark ....
Choose well !

Guess you didn't get much joy out of RR?
What do you want to know about the Corps?
Training? Arguably the longest and best in the World.
Career variation? Multitude choices to be made while still staying a Royal Marine be it ML, SF, or Chef.
Deployments? A great deal of variation, although the Army are also deploying all over the place.
Mates? The guys I passed out with over 36 yrs ago still keep in touch and still have the odd reunion.
The guys you meet after training will also remain as mates for a long time.
