NEED HELP/ADVICE URGENTLY!

hi people...

basically im joining the army (2nd battalion princess of wales royal regiment),i had my final (3rd)interview booked in for today when i got into a bit of trouble with the law...i got stopped for driving with no insurance (i promise i didnt know as i was added to my friends policy). ive phoned afco to let them know the situation and they have cancelled my interview due to this unspent conviction... i really need other opinions as to what will happen if i get a driving ban.will i still be able to join if i have a driving ban?

REALLY WORRIED AND NEED HELP...

You will still be able to join yes once your conviction is spent and you have been dealt with by the courts, however you should ring and book an appointment with your careers advisor to discuss your application as this has most certainly added time on your process.

Take the bus from now on. You could take your own fourm signatures advice on this one.

when you say "once your conviction is spent" do you mean once my driving ban (if i get banned) is up or once ive been to court?

If you are convicted of an offence then you MAY have to wait until that conviction is spent under the rehabilitation of offenders act.

Also when I applied i had a previous driving ban and my recruiter thought i was still banned and gave me a sheet of jobs i was allowed to do, there were about 4 jobs on the sheet. When i told him my ban had expired a long time ago he brought out a new list of jobs i could do that was 3 pages long, so it definately makes a difference.

I must assume that because you have not been given the usual 6-8 penalty points for this first offence that you already have penalty points.

If you have indeed had a driving ban imposed from court and not a ban pending court then I am afraid your conviction will not be spent for five years. Contact your local AFCO/ACIO

Its one unspent conviction you can join with up to three.
No requirement for a driving licence in the Infantry so you can join with a driving ban.

They wont touch you till you have been to court, its too much trouble for them.

Driving Without Insurance

Driving without insurance is illegal. You don't actually have to be driving the vehicle for it to be a criminal offence - if you own a vehicle that is not insured, you can be prosecuted even if you have never driven it. You can potentially be fined up to £5000 if you are caught, although the typical fine is often a lot less than this. You will also be given a number of penalty points on your driver's license. This can be problematic if you already have penalty points, as incurring more than six will mean the loss of your license. You may have your license revoked too. As well as driving an uninsured car, It is also illegal to let someone else borrow your car if they are not insured on it.


I suppose it depends on how the law/courts see it. I can not see points on your licence if that is all you will be convicted for, stopping you joining. Did the car have a valid MOT and tax?

i have not been disqualified (yet) and i have no points whatsoever on my license...and also im only on a cbt so if i get 6 points-i automatically get my license revoked...im really stuck!

Two years as a recruiter, yes Im certain as your going for Infantry, however it also depends on your age?

when i did adsc there was a lad who had a driving ban and he passed but they told him they werent taking people on with bans that is what he told us
