Well that was a bit of a surprising reply, I wasn't expecting they "I'm a little woman" response.
You're right of course women are built differently than men, but that doesn't mean that women can't be fit. We're not talking about tabbing with a bergen, just running in shorts and trainers and there's no physical differences which mean a girl can't put in a decent time on a 1.5 mile run.
If a girl wants to join the Forces then they should be prepared to put in the effort to get their fitness up. I'd be more than willing to bet the reason the Army has the 14min time for girls is because they would have too many failing if the run time was lower and that's not a good thing.
Women are more than capable of getting fit and putting in decent times and a girl shouldn't really have any problems running 1.5 miles in say 12mins if they train hard enough. 14min is seriously slow, you could actually walk a good part of it and still come in under the time limit.
Making allowances for the fitness standards at the very start sets the wrong tone for the rest of training in my opinion and if you're going to take the opinion that they'll improve during basic training then why bother with minimum standards at all.
