Alrite mate,
If you are wanting to join the "standard" infantry i think you need to get your 1.5 mile run to 12 minutes and below. If you are wanting to join the Parachute Regiment you need it around 9 minutes and under. I would still put in your application thought mate, and train while your waiting.
Go into your Army Careers office and speak to them. Hope all goes well

Re: Should i train more before applying?
I am applying for Army Infantry. I've got selection next Tuesday. I can do the 1.5 mile in 9.34, 90 sit ups in 2 minutes and 50 press ups in 2 minutes, you don't have to do press ups or sit ups at selection but you do at basic. I have been training for a few years though so just try and improve everything by training, training and more training. You don't want to just scrape in and achieve the minimum standard, you want to smash everything and be near the top.stu753 wrote:I am 19 years old and want to join the army as infantry. i can run 1.5 miles in under 15 mins, do 40 sit ups in 2 mins and do 40 press ups in 2 mins. how good does fitness have to be on first application?

I have read and heard different things about selection, what tests are done? As i know it you are examined on the following:
Sit Ups (best effort, min 50 in 2 mins)
Press Ups (best effort, min 44 in 2 min)
1.5 Mile Run (best effort - varying times - under 11 min for standard entry, 9:18 for Para)
Jerry Can test (best effort - 150 metres at a certain speed)
Grenade Throw
Ice Breaker
Team Tasks
On one army website they showed a static/dead lift test and also a back strength test.
Also some trades require a written test
Can anyone confirm all this please?

Officially Line Infantry required run time is 12:30 minimum. That said your office may want you to do 10:30 or whatever before they send you off to ADSC.
The Army's motto is 'Be The Best' not 'Do the bare minimum'. The fitter you are the better I imagine.
Tom163 just curious when are you starting your app?

Yeah obviously a moto I live by aswel I am running it about 10.20 now just wondered what the official cut of time was. They know I was training for Para before so they ask more of me which i'm fine with
