Do you get to choose your battalion?

I want to know when you get to choose which battalion within the regiment you join. I go to ITC Catterick on 12 July but no one has asked about which battalion I want to join. I am guessing it would depend on the staffing needs of the regiment but I was wondering if you have any say in it and if you can transfer across the regiment. I am interested because my chosen regiment PWRR has 2 battalion based in Germany an Cyprus respecitively. As I can speak (near) perfect German I thought it would be neat if I was based in Germany. But sunny Cyprus wouldn't be that bad would it.

Yo can always ask, but on the whole you will be sent to the one that needs the bodies the most. The only time this might be waived if you could show a good reason for going to a certain battalion

I have a question in the same vein so though i'd put it in here insted. I am wanting to go into the Mercian Regiment but I only want to go into the second battalion (Formally Worcesters and Foresters) seen as the Worcesters and Foresters would have been my local regiment will they let me straight into 2 Mercian or not?


I always though you could choose as I wanted to go Light Infantry and the other 3 are Armoured, Mechanized and TA.
