Kit list confusion

Post by JamesR »

I've been looking at my kit list and it says I have to have 2 Metre Long; Inch Wide Black Elastic. Can anybody tell me what these are for?
And where I could get them?

Sorry if this has been posted else where.

Without knowing all the details, my guess is that it means elastic strapping or webbing as used in haberdashery for undewear waistbands, hemlines etc.

I think it might be so that you can sew it onto your equipment for holding natural camouflage.

I could be wrong (though that would be rare).

I don't have to shoot off anywhere. I'm having a lazy day around the house.

Well i've been giving two kit lists. This one is the official army kit list.

http://www.army.mod.uk/training_educati ... 10403.aspx

I've got all that, but that one does not have the "Metre of black inch wide elastic".

But now I've been given another kit list which is called "Joining instructions and information for new infantry recruits" which has a "Metre of black inch wide elastic".

Do you think it will be a risk if I do not take this item?

It's hardly an everyday item, and it's quite specific. So without knowing what it's for (OWK's guess seems a good one), I'd say take it - they give you these lists for a reason.

You can buy it on camp.

It is not a major issue if you can not get hold of it before you rock up as you will not need it for the first few weeks, you will be able to get some in either the on camp Spar or Sandes for something like 50p-£1.

I can put your mind at ease and confirm that the reason Obi said is spot on. You sew it on to the back of your webbing yoke and over your utility pouches, It is to hold natural camouflage during cam & concealment excerises. You also sew a lenght of it onto the front of your helmet so it can be secured when wearing your respirator. Though the only time I needed to do this was during one of my final CBRN lessons around the week 11/12 point and once during Ex final fling in week 13. So like I said, there is no drama in waiting to you get on camp and getting some from the naafi if you can't get hold of any.

If you want to get hold of it in advance, your best bet is probably the local haberdashery, usually found in a back street in town (yell.com is your friend). Or C&H Fabrics if there's one your way.
