It's a shiite photo but it's Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

"The cap badge features an eagle, which represents the French Imperial Eagle that was captured by the Royal Scots Greys at Waterloo, from the French 45th Regiment of Foot. It is always worn with a black backing in mourning for Tsar Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, who was their Colonel-in-Chief at the time of his murder. The cap badge also has the crossed carbines of the 3rd Carabiniers at the rear of the eagle." (Wiki)

Now you're being ridiculous.... It's a fekin black PARACHUTE.....

Is your mate in the cadets....? Is he a walt? Is this a 'side-on shot' or does he like wearing his cap badge over what is presumably his right EAR??

Haven't got a clue from these crap photos... The first black splodge you posted looked like it could have been the Scots Dragoon Guards eagle (sort of ..... if you squinted...)

Since he is your mate. Why not just ask him? Or does he not know? :-?

They will have phones on the camp for him to use and writing equipment for mail, give that a go. You sound like the best of mates.

I agree that it looks like the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards or the Kings Royal Hussars. Have you never talked about what he was going to do or is doing. Did he talk about driving tanks or armour etc?

By the way it looks like a crap beret, more like Frank Spencer.

Not a 'best' mate just a lad I knew through school and talked to every so often. Anyway lets leave it now.

Cheers for the help.
